I know the lawyers' job is to win the case, but it's a shame the victory is for such poor public policy. This will ultimately dramatically increase the costs of electric power for every consumer. Coupled with the science-less opposition to fracking for natural gas production, we are all in store for 2x+ power bills in the next decade. |
Would you rather die from the lung cancer you got from air pollution even though you've never smoked a cigarette? Or would you rather experience an earthquake caused by (not linked to, proven to be CAUSED by) fracking? Idiot. |
Since neither of those things is even close to a legitimate concern, yes, I would rather have lower cost power, particularly as higher electricity cost is one of the most punitive taxes on the poor. Earthquakes caused by fracking ... hah ... you quack. Read the science instead of just gulping up whatever lunatic extremist org is feeding you. |
http://www.forbes.com/sites/kensilverstein/2014/05/06/shale-oil-and-gas-potential-for-earthquakes-could-cause-sector-to-lose-footing/ Oh, sorry, Forbes must not be good enough for you, so: http://time.com/84225/fracking-and-earthquake-link/ Oh, wait, TIME too liberal for you? http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/fracking-can-cause-earthquakes/ I feel badly for you. |
| If you read those (or rather, have the mental capacity to comprehend them) you'll note that that risk of earthquake from cracking itself is the same, if not less than, drop idling for conventional oil and gas ... though I'm sure you're opposed to that too. Moreover, the only distinct risk related to the cracking process is the improper disposal of the waste water. So, regulate the waste water, don't dispose of it along a fault line, but use real science and not scare tactics to evaluate the country's options. You strike me as the type that was certain that vaccination cause autism. |
| Drop idling = drilling per AAPL |

Back on topic....
I am a federal employee and while I am very proud of my work ethic and contributions, I shake my head about lots of things I see and hear about with staff at my agency. I'd say that the majority of my colleagues are very professional, but there are enough that ride the system that it's quite disheartening at times. I do not work at EPA. My brother was a contractor there for a number of years and the stories he tells makes you wonder how on earth that agency functions. There was another thread (maybe the GS-15 one?) where a few posters also specifically pointed out personnel issues at EPA. Now this report about the porn? The guy AND his supervisor should be fired. |
| Alas probably neither will be fired. The offender probably will get a suspension and a mark on his permanent record and will go back to slacking off. Why is it so hard to eject these slugs? |
| I work at DoD. Everyone I work with jokes about what a, well, joke, the EPA is. |
|
The government should stop using electricity from gas/oil/coal or nuclear . So should the EPA and Sierra club. Plus no plastic, rubber or any products from oil.
They are such hypocrites. And very weird how they just use tons of power like they think it's coming from nowhere. They should be severely restricted in their homes with a shut off at half the use of the average American to prove they believe their convictions. |
| EPA should be green in all ways possible (power source, consumption, and more) but I'm pretty sure GSA "buys" all the power for federal agencies. not sure one agency has their own source of power versus others, but i could be wrong. |
You are wrong, and EPA purchases over 100% of their annual energy use in renewable energy credits. See: http://www.epa.gov/greenpower/toplists/top10federal.htm |
All government agencies are required to reduce energy use under executive orders. EPA has reduced energy use 25% since 2003 and water use by almost 40%. http://www.epa.gov/oaintrnt/pubs/index.htm#reports And I do use well under the VA average of energy per household, have 1 fuel efficient car which gets driven about 7000 miles a year, buy 100% green power from dominion, and buy carbon offsets for my air travel. So I'm not too concerned about random Internet people's opinions about my hypocrisy or convictions. I also never surf porn at work and completely agree that the person in question should be fired. I have no interest in working with people who don't care about their work either. |
| you mean there are normal people against domestic oil production, or just quacks? |
| I knew coworkers actually having sex on the job and they weren't even fired in the government |
