What's wrong with prep classes? AAP parents should be very familiar with prepping, gaming and appealing so that their children get into AAP. At least, there is no appealing by spending money and by hiring experts to get the best IQ scores money can buy to gain admission to TJ like there is with AAP. Also, do AAP parents object to preparing for SAT/ACT classes as well? I don't think so. |
^ nothing wrong with it. The question was why are the Asians so overrepresented at TJ, and I believe is extensive test prep starting sometimes as early as 6th grade is one of the reasons. |
Sorry PP, test prep is more a way of life, and it starts well before 6th grade. |
for TJ, really? |
Agreed. I believe that Asians are naturally smart, and this coupled with a culture of studying/prepping leads to the numbers disparity. People want to believe that all groups of people are equal, but it's obvious that this isn't true. |
Teachers in enrichment classes and summer programs start talking about TJ in early grade school. It's all geared toward that one school as being the ultimate goal for kids |
a generalization perhaps, but whites seem not as interested in STEM as Asians and this has led to marked decline in white applications - not their rate of acceptance, mind - but the number who even bother to apply. |
That's not a lack of interest in STEM. It's a lack of wanting to go to a school where one is such a minority. |
Haha round eye, you have no chance

Now they know what minority kids around the nation face every day, with the difference being that these work-phobic white kids have other options, while most minority kids don't. |
You hit it right on the head! |
There is less discrimination and less of a glass ceiling barrier in hard science fields like engineering, computer science and medicine against Asians compared to other fields such as business, law and humanities so Asians gravitate towards hard science areas.
Hard to believe we still have discrimination in employment but sadly it still exists. |
We have a winner.... |
Because one group is populated primarily by people immigrating from countries that treat children very harshly from a young age, and do so with no apologies. Why should the rest of us subsidize and reward such behavior in this country? |
As a parent of a very hard working white TJ student, who also finds time to watch TV and play video games, it's pretty offensive to have randos on this website call him and others like him lazy, stupid, etc. These are kids you are talking about. They are all smart and good, regardless of race. The parents, that could be another story.... |
