| I had a completely different experience than these posters. I was still 4 when starting K. Was a poor student all the way through. Had to repeat a grade in H.S.. It totally sucked, please if you think your child needs more time, give it to them! |
| 5 in K, 18 graduating but kids red shirted in K will be graduating at 19. Doesn't seem right. |

2 months shy of my 17th bday.
skipped a grade and a summer bday. it was fine, but i always had an earlier curfew than everyone else. |
| Well 4 in K is hard PP. BUT is equally harmful to be 6 in K, i think. |
|
I skipped K and just started right in 1st grade at 5. I was at times a full year and a half younger than classmates.
I was a month past my 17th birthday when I graduated HS. I finished my college classes right before 21, and was a week past my birthday when I walked in my ceremony. I was always fairly mature for my age, so it wasn't a big deal. I was never made to feel like the baby. It really only affected me for #1 driving and #2 drinking in public. |

Mid-August birthday, went on time. Graduated HS at 17 (turned 18 two months later); college at 21 (turned 22 three months later).
DH has late December birthday and his mom forced him in (in NY). He was 4 when he started k in 1974. DH did well academically, but per his report did not particularly enjoy himself socially. It wasn't terrible, but he wishes his mom had waited a year. They needed the money so she went back to work. |
| 17. I completed my bachelors at 20. |
| 17. |
| 17 |
| 17.5. Due to the different age cutoff between public (where I started) and private school (where I finished) I was a year younger than my private school classmates. In retrospect I would have benefitted from an extra year. My DCs were/will be 18.5 when they graduate. |
| Would there be a lot of 19 year olds graduating from HS?? |
|
July birthday. Went to K on time, graduated at 17. Timing was all correct; I was always a good student and appropriately mature for my grade.
My sister had a late October birthday and started K at 4. Big mistake. She repeated third grade, at my mother's insistence (school wanted to keep pushing her through). She should have repeated K or started K a year later. My son has a January birthday and I am very glad there will be no question about when he'll start K. |
|
There were 6 kids in my family. The cutoff was December.
2 were October/September birthdays started at 4 ... Hardly made it through HS ... No college 2 were January/February birthdays, college scholarships and law school 1 was June birthday, MBA Me, September, struggled all through school but would not let it get me down, graduated with a STEM degree |

18. But it's about the journey, right? Because it does not matter so much once you start working. Some of my colleagues are 10 years younger and up to 15 years older than me.

My redshirted child will be 18 when graduating. I made the right choice for HIM. It doesn't matter about the past, what matters is what is best for the individual child NOW.
I was 4 when I started k, 17 at graduation and hated being the youngest (late December birthday). |
