This is the attitude that causes bad service

Jesus, no one here knows anything about business.

So enlighten me genius.

Maybe Kroger will buy the Safeways and convert them to Harris Teeters? That would be awesome.

Have to agree that union grocery stores are worse than non-union ones. Customer service is the worst. Have you ever been to the Sangamore Rd. Safeway? Perfect example of this. Long lines, refusal to open up additional cashiers to accommodate customers, surly cashiers, and on and on.

The union has nothing to do with opening up check stand lanes, managers put less workers on because the company gives them no hours to run the front end, hours are distributed to other departments who already have a lot of workload burden then managers are supposed to come and open check stands when the cashier calls for backup but then most managers will not do it. Also service is directly related to the store manager, when the employees are treated like crap by management the moral goes in the toilet. If stores were not unionized you would ultimately be paying more because it would be just like wal mart where employees cannot support their families, need low income housing and federal benefits. Being unionized does not mean you cannot be fired it means they have to have a real reason to fire you other than the manager doesn't like you.

What about whoever owns Stop and Shop? Or, ShopRite?

Giant is part of Stop and Shop.

So are Martins and Giant (Pennsylvania).

I lived in CA and miss Sprouts Farmers Market terribly. It's like a normally priced Wholefoods sans snobbery.

Safeway is a lot better in other places.

What if Giant/Ahol tries to buy Safeway? Talk about jumping from the frying pan to the fire! They only stuff that's fresh at Giant is the rat dung.

I could have written this. Nasty nasty personnel. I just stopped going. And I guessed at the time it was Union and said so to DH but never bothered to check. Yup, explains it all.

Not in McLean. No one goes there anymore. I had to go and locate someone to slice some deli meat for me. Then asked him for a pound of the taboule salad (sitting right in the counter). He didn't know what that was so I pointed it out. He said he couldn't write it up because he didn't know how to spell taboule. So I suggested we try typing it in to the computer - so I spelled it for him - and bingo - price comes up and I get my taboule. But it took a LOT of effort on my part to get it. I got to the mclean Safeway only when the Giant parking lot is mobbed (always). But help there? Noway. There was time back when it was called "the international safeway" (?) when if you asked someone for something they actually smiled and pleasantly walked you to the product in its aisle. Those days are long gone.

Ms. Crystal is terrific! So nice and goes the extra mile (opened up lanes for me when I had a baby, asked others to do the same). But I also think that Sangamore Rd is a much better than average Safeway. Can't stand Safeway in general.

Harris Teeter was just bought by Kroger.

It is such an awful store. The employees are so surly and they never have more than 2 lines open. I only go there is I need one or two things because it it's closet than Giant, but I always regret it.
