Ikea Hemnes daybed with a non-Ikea (i.e. normal thickness) mattress?

I heart the internet. I had exactly the same question, and now it is answered. THANKS!

We just finished putting this together and survived the relationship challenge of assembling flat pack.
We are very happy with the finished product & will use it as a guest bed. We purchased 2 12cm foam mattresses. 14 cm would work too.

do you think 2x 16 cm could work?

We have this bed with 2 mattresses stacked. They are ikea, but not the super slim ones. Make sure your mattresses are flat on top (not pillow top) and you should be fine. Buy super extra deep pocketed sheets and pull the fitted sheet down over both.

It is a HUGE pain to put together. Definitely need 2 people. Also a giant pain to make the bed, but if it is a guest bed you won't be making it as often. The quality is good, similar to other Hemnes products. Pulling out the trundle is not easy either and I have to have DH push it back in. This is on hardwood and I assume if you have it on carpet it would be nigh on impossible.

I'm thinking of getting the 2 Jomna twin mattresses from ikea. Anyone do this? Ikea recommends foam or latex, but they are so pricey! I'm only going to use it as a guest bed, and not too frequently. The Jomna is a spring mattress.

Reupping this thread because we are about to buy one of these, but don't intend to buy the Ikea mattresses to go with it. There are so many new mattresses out there now and I would like to hear what mattresses people have chosen instead of the Ikea mattress. Thanks.

It's really, kind of too tall, even with the Ikea depth mattresses. It really never looks or functions like a sofa, but it is a way to have a king size bed tucked away, plus some storage.

We have bought several Ikea beds for our college students moving into their first apartments. I don't think any of them have been the Hamnes style; however, we have never used the Ikea mattresses, which is why I am posting. We have always bought regular mattresses to use on the Ikea beds and we have been very happy. You need to look at the bed frame measurements carefully and then choose your mattress using those, and you will be happy. Good luck!

I have this bed. I bought the ikea mattresses and they are fine - I put a memory foam topper on when using it as a king. I would find 2 stacked non-ikea twins too high to make the daybed comfortable, but you could probably do it. I think it would be a pain to open though (more weight on the slats and hard to push the mattresses around).

Just got the IKEA Hemnes daybed with two meistervik mattresses for our guest room/office. So as a daybed/couch when an office and pulled out to its full- nearly king - size for guests.

I hope a king fitted sheet will work and I may get a mattress topper.

Don’t love the super high and square sides, but didn’t see good alternatives.

We have this bed in my daughter's room, with one regular mattress on it.

For our use, we pulled the platform out just a little and put a double mattress on it. She sleeps very comfortably in it on the "wall side," but when I lay in it, I only feel comfortable sleeping on the side that pulls out past the "arms," on the "outside." Otherwise I feel like it's too short (I'm 5'6" and like to extend my arms, DD is 4'6", 10 years old, has plenty of room). You could also do this with a queen mattress.

If you intend to use as a single daybed and then pull out to a King for guests, I think that two stacked regular-sized mattresses would be way too tall for every day use. But maybe you could put one regular twin on it and then use a twin air mattress when there are guests. Or the two ikea mattresses for daybed use and then put a king air mattress over both, for guest use?
