princess party invite

If I were you, I would go to the thrift store with DD, and look for lots of stuff with satin and lace.

Although actually if I were you, we would be busy the day of the birthday party.

Any dress is fine, you don't need a full-on princess costume. And if you don't have a dress, a shirt and skirt/skort combination would do also. These kids are 3, I doubt any of them are REALLY INTO princesses. But they will like meeting the "real princess."

I would just make something out of what you have. Does she have any dresses? Pick the fanciest one. Make a crown out of construction paper. She can decorate it with stickers, glitter, crayons, whatever. Does she (or do you) have any costume jewelry? Load her up with it. Do you have any scarves? Use one to make a sash or tie a belt. Get creative, she'll have a blast.

OP here. Don't want to decline. DD will have fun no matter what, and the family are friends of ours. We do have a tiara or two and she has a sash with jingle bell things all over it. She has plenty of fancy dresses, but do I want to put one on her so she can get pink icing caked all over it? Hmm. Maybe?

And I don't know 9:55. My niece is also 3 and knows the name of every single Disney princess, what they wear, what they "do." Thank god we've escaped that phase so far.

OP, let her take the theme and run with it. My daughter decided, at the last minute, to change her Halloween costume to a "princess fairy." So we went up to the dress-up box, and I asked her what kind of "princess fairy" she wanted to be. She wanted to be "a fire-fighter princess fairy." So, her costume was a dress, with a fire-fighter hat, and a spatula (...I don't know). She was thrilled.

Anonymous wrote:So, DD just got invited to her first princess party. Invite says the kids can dress up if they want; they've hired a "princess" to come to the party. DD doesn't have a princess costume though, and isn't really much into the Disney princesses. She does love to dress up though, but I haven't spent a lot of money getting her various costumes, unless you count the dollar store. Do I need to go out and get a costume now? If yes, where I can get one cheap? Or can I piecemeal something together? These are 3 year olds, btw.

Buy a decent princess costume so you have it for future parties. Believe me, as a mom of a now 8 yr old girl, these parties become very popular. My child was never much into princesses so we didn't have a bunch of costumes and accessories to pull something together quickly. I ended up buying a Disney store costume on sale and used it for several years for these parties.

If she has plenty of fancy dresses, I say go for it. What's a bunch of icing on a dress that she'll grow out of shortly?

just put her in any frilly dress. you can add sparkle or something to a headband to make a tiara or you can get stuff from the dollar store if you want. sounds fun!

We went to a princess/knight party that was cute. The girls all wore disney princess outfits (bleah!) and most of the boys didn't dress up. It was pretty fun for my boy even! He was captivated by the princess...

This is what I would go with.

My DD would definitely dress as a superhero and work some kind of headband or tutu into it. No need to get something new or bow to the Disney machine -- let your kid flex her own creative muscle around what it means!

Why would anyone want to decline a princess party?

I feel for your little girl if she ends up interested in that stuff. It is a shame you are so narrow minded.

Is this a rhetorical question, or are you sincerely interested in the answer?

NO!! Please leave these girls alone. There is nothing wrong with princesses or pink!

I guess it was a rhetorical question.
