| My guess is that center schools are more proactive...why would a non-center school want to encourage a brain drain? Saying this as a parent of a non-center school that gives the bare minimum of information every year. |

+1 Our principal comes to every meeting that the AART has for providing info. and he tells parents not to send their kids to the center b/c it might be too much for them and the kid will have to come back with his/her spirit crushed and the parents won't talk to him anymore. Message is: don't push your kids, don't extend them... it could be a collossal failure. |

It could work the other way too. At least as a parent you can try, if you think it doesn't work well in the first year in AAP, pull your kid and put him/her in the base school. There are kids who need little push. |

No so. We all know a lot of the kids in AAP aren't necessarily "gifted"; they're excellent, self-motivated students who are not behavior problems. Why in the world would I encourage those kids leaving my school? I don't blame the principals at all. |

| PP here-no info provided by our center school-just so tired of the games-there is no way the schools haven't known since early Jan which students are in the pool. All of this is deliberate to stress us out!! |

because as others have noted, many truly gifted kids have issues -- intellect far-outpacing social skills, 2E, etc. Do some research before you sound off. broadening centers to include smart, achieving kids who are not gifted and would do just fine at their base schools is what has muddied the water. ask any AAP teacher. Ask any elementary school teacher or principal. most will tell you the same thing. the sooner AAP services at all levels are self-contained in individual schools the better. might even help on snow days since less kids will have to be bussed out of their neighborhoods. |
