I don't like the show. I don't think it's profound or insightful or entertaining. I think it's insufferable.
The nudity is irritating, but I'm irritated by the excessive unnecessary nudity in a lot of shows. I like Game of Thrones. I think it's a good show. BUT I hate all of the unnecessary nudity. No, I'm not a prude. I just want to watch a show without constantly having to see boobs and vaginas and penises. I'm really tired of this idea that for a show to be "authentic," it has to be soft porn. And yes, I apply that view to all of the shows. One of the things I really liked about Enlightenment, which sadly was canceled, is that it didn't have any nudity. It was a good show, and it didn't need nudity to tell a story. No, I don't agree with Lena Dunham's point, that they were trying to be authentic by showing the characters doing things people normally do. Everyone poops, but I don't need to see actresses pooping in a show to make their characters authentic. The brilliance of good art -- in television and in writing -- is that you can tell an authentic story without having to make it like a reality show or, in the case of a written work, include every possible detail of life. |
I watched the first two seasons but now I simply cannot stomach it. The nudity was off-putting, but some of the stuff on the show was just over-the-top. I mean...when one girl walked in and saw her friend in the tub, and then just climbed in the tub with her....WTF? The scenarios are just so unbelievable....couldn't ever imagine Hannah actually having a somewhat nice-looking boyfriend. And the idea that he would run through the streets to "rescue" her....really?? I likelier scenario would have been Dennis Rodman showing up. |
I watched it but the thought of seeing Hannah naked again just makes me want to vomit. No it's not because she is slightly plump it's because her nakedness looks like it would stink up the room. |
awww fat women dont deserve good looking men?
you people need to check the mommy weight thread. dayum |
You can have extra weight and still be beautiful. Lena D. just seems like a jerk. She writes nude scenes into the show so she can prove how comfortable she is with herself, but really she's still that insecure bully who is too cool for everyone else in the room. |
Wow, lots of haters on this thread. Usually DCUM'ers go 50/50 on Girls.
Personally, I find it hilarious. |
What TV show or movie shows penises? Full Monty and ... |
I think some of you may be too old to get the show. Not meant in a mean way at all. But the bathtub scene for example, i used to do this with my BFF/roommate in college. |
The nudity doesn't bother. It's the incessant whining that I can't stand. STFU already and grow up. |
Her reaction was so weird. It made no sense. The show is odd in my opinion. |
I didn't like it at first but it grew on me. Now it's one of my favorite shows although I still find it uncomfortable to watch at times (the eardrum episode! Ugh!). But parts of it are hysterical. The episode where Shoshanna unknowingly smoked crack and the one where Hannah did coke for a story had me laughing so hard my stomach hurt.
I read that previews are reporting that the first three episodes are less awkward, funnier, (and more predictable) and I think that is a good move for the show. Bring it back to the humor that made it popular. |
I don't think her reaction was weird at all. It was obvious what the reporter was implying ("what makes you think people want to see a nude body that looks like *that* all the time?"), which is not only personally insulting to Lena D. but is also offensive to the majority of American women who look similar. And I say this as someone who is a size two by the way before you bother getting up on your "you're just fat and jealous" high horse. |
If I had to choose between watching Girls and getting waterboarded, I'm not sure which one I'd pick |
And you're just the audience they're going for, which isn't a bad thing. Either "Hey, that reminds me of me and my friends!" or "I wish I was like that with friends like that." We aren't too old to get the show. We don't identify with the self-absorption. |
I don't like it. Everyone's ugly, and then sometimes the ugly people are naked. When I watch tv i want to see pretty. |
