If the election is about cover-ups and scandals between CC and HRC, I think it's probably a draw. With the tie going to CC because of the strong taint incompetency that is oozing out of the Obama Admin that will stick to HRC like stink on a monkey.

At some point NJ D's are going to run out of using the big bad bully card they've been using.

Seriously? Kids are trapped on school buses for hours and the first thing that comes to your mind is BENGHAZI?

You have serious mental issues. You really need to get in touch with whatever is the source of your values because there is an obvious disconnect. Clinton has nothing to do with this. Christie will never make it out of a Republican primary. The lunatic fringe of the Republican party -- those like you -- will appreciate stranding kids as a political tactic. But, that bunch won't vote for Christie anyway because he likes Muslims and doesn't hate gays. The few sane Republicans that would support Christie will be turned off by this.

Stop the melodrama. The mayor was using the most obvious heart-strings example, where were kids from NJ being bused into NYC to? A field trip on the first week of school? I am intimately aware of this area, it sucks in general. And I didn't explicitly bring up the Big B, I'm simply pointing out that apples to apples, there isn't much there there, other than politics as usual and a rogue staffer who is probably cleaning out her desk.

With conservatives, it's always a rogue agent. If a white Christian shoots up a church, it's not because he is a radicalized Christian. It's because he's mentally ill. If a conservative politician has a scandal, he's not responsible; it's an underling going rogue. If you are the state chair of your party and you admit to voter suppression, the party isn't responsible. Now on the other hand, if a Republican appointee under Barack Obama screws up, it's Obama's fault because it's "on his watch".

We've moved on. It's Hillary's fault, Obama is damaged goods at this point as it is.

Really? What white Christians are shooting up churches? Great example.

Really? You have forgotten already?

You wish he was done! This is nothing, maybe more will come out but this is a whole lotta nothing to see here.

How can it possibly be nothing?

Btw I think conservatives want him gone more than liberals.

Not me. Look forward to supporting him, should he decide to run.

Serious question: Could anyone be criminally prosecuted for this? The deputy chief of staff? Or the Port Authority goon?

Criminal?

Doesn't sound like it. Who would bring the charges? The state?

I find this whole thing shocking.

Not that Christie and his cronies could be so vindictive, but that they could be so foolish as to right the words in an email.

I agree, this will hurt him with moderates.

Jeff, Jeff, Jeff. Give it up. The next election will be about BENGHAZI and only BENGHAZI. Stop trying to change the subject.

Oddly, I don't see how they are calling this his "first" scandal.

Only a few years ago, they completely blew their Race to the Top application. And the reason was that his office took direct control over the bid and then botched it. He blamed it on Obama, until the actual video came out.

It cost the state $400 million.

"Private messages between Governor’s Christie’s deputy chief of staff and two of his top executives at the Port Authority reveal a vindictive effort to create 'traffic problems in Fort Lee' by shutting lanes to the George Washington Bridge and apparent pleasure at the resulting gridlock."

...

"In one exchange of text messages on the second day of the lane closures, Wildstein alludes to messages the Fort Lee mayor had left complaining that school buses were having trouble getting through the traffic.

"Is it wrong that I’m smiling," the recipient of the text message responded to Wildstein. The person’s identity is not clear because the documents are partially redacted for unknown reasons.

"No," Wildstein wrote in response.

"I feel badly about the kids," the person replied to Wildstein. "I guess."

"They are the children of Buono voters," Wildstein wrote, making a reference to Barbara Buono, the Democratic candidate for governor, who lost to Christie in a landslide in November.

So, Chris Christie's deputy chief of staff created a 4-day traffic nightmare for an entire town because the mayor wouldn't endorse Christie and even took pleasure in keeping kids trapped on school busses. I'm sure the conservatives here will be outraged by this misuse of government power.

I may be the most conservative poster here, Mr. Steele, and I think this is totally indefensible and Christie should pay a huge political price for it. Intentionally causing traffic is per se outrageous. I am a little surprised, however, that so many here are shocked, shocked that this type of payback occurs in New Jersey of all places. My guess is that this type of thing happens all the time by politicians of all stripes. That's the kind of thing that politicians do, although this is more graceless and less justifiable than run of the mill payback. Still, he was bad, he was caught, he should pay the price. Certainly this substantially hurts his presidential ambitions. Can't say I am sad to see that, myself.

At least it's not a crime (hi, Mr. Spitzer, who is somehow being rehabiliated -- I hope you share my outrage at that, too, Mr. Steele.)

He's definitely going to pay for this -- and he should. Writing it in an email? Stupid. He should pay for that, alone.

I'm a moderate's moderate, so I'm sad to see this happen. Certainly does the "no bullshit" persona any favors. But if he's got people that stupid/careless in high places, better to know it sooner than later.

Hey guys, it was all a misunderstanding - did you see his statement? He had no idea what was being planned through his staff. Poor guy. So taken advantage of.

There have been other mayors claiming retribution too. This wouldn't be so damaging, except that his whole Schlick is that he ignores politics in order to do right by the people of NJ.

Schtick. Damn autocorrect

If you are "intimately familiar with this area" you know that if the approach to the GWB has any problems at all, it can screw up traffic on the surface streets. That is exactly what happened. The kids weren't even in the traffic waiting to go into NYC, they were on the regular routes just trying to get from one place in Fort Lee to another, and the GWB problem rendered the entire town farkakte. One of the days this happened was the first day of school. Your kindergartner's first time ever on the school bus takes hours, and you wouldn't be pissed about it? Bullshit.
