I am an independent who did not have a strong opinion about Christie before this although I always liked the fact that he is a moderate Republican. I am completely turned off by him now. I agree with the earlier statement that this is bad for him because die hard Republicans didn't like him to start with and moderate Republicans (and independents) will be turned off by this scandal.
2016 is a long way away and perhaps the options for the Republican nominee will be so weak that he wins anyway but this definitely hurts. It will be what I associate with him. |

It is so petty and stupid. What is wrong with his aides? Do they think they can play with little people's daily lives and get away with it? And leaving a trail of emails and texts - what a bunch of reckless morons.

Speculative at best, and after 2012's polling debacle for we R's, I wouldn't be so quick to write the final chapter of one's political fate based on this week's news. I'm at least hopeful my party has finally moved on from choosing unelectable candidates for reasons of purity over elect-ability, knowing that your hope is the reverse. |
As an independent, why do you insist on speaking for "die-hard Republicans" when you don't appear to be in position to do so? |
Not PP, and not an independent or a Republican, but look on any comment section of any article about Christie, even pre-this scandal, and it is fabulously apparent that the wingnut Republicans hate him because A) he hugged Obama; and B) why do they need another reason to hate him? |
Thanks for the laugh, so true. |

| Right-wing Republicans may hate him but he did an excellent job of apologizing this afternoon. I don't care for his politics or him but I don't think he is going to lose ground with his supporters one bit. But whether those supporters can get him the Republican nomination is another story. |
Sounds like a Republican grading scale. Excellent apology! Not his fault, but he's really pissed at the people who were to blame! |

Christie should have taken one from obamas play book on how to handle a scandal;
1) this is the first I have heard if this. I found out this morning in the paper 2) I am shocked and disappointed by this- the American people deserve answers 3) I will get to the bottom of this right away and hold those involved accountable 4) either don't have a press conference or if you do take 1 softball question from a friendly reporter 5) hold no investigation 6) hold no one accountable 7) fire no one 8) when you're asked about it a few weeks later you say that is old news and we have already addressed that. 9) wait til the next next scandal so that one can cycle out of the news 10) move on |
Except Obama did fire people and there were investigations. So basically the difference between the "excellent" Christie apology and this one is Obama's political party and skin color. Two hypotheses, I'll let you decide which is the right one. |
Shirley Sherrod sure was held accountable... |
+1000. |
I think there is nothing wrong with his aide. He was involved and knew and probably ordered his aid to do so. Just wait for a tell all book someday. |
