Agreed

Have you tried having your daughter call grandma and ask for the clothes back?

I was going to suggest sending a SASE for her to mail it, but I love the courier idea!! Let us know what happens, OP.

YOU were irresponsible and left your crap there. Get over yourself.

If you had just talked about the dress, I might have had some sympathy. But the fact that you are so bent out of shape about a beach towel is weird. If your stuff is important to you, don't forget it. And, if you do forget it, make your own arrangements to get it back and foot the bill for it.

Next time your daughter asks for the towel, dial your MIL and have the your MIL explain why she has not sent it.

If it means that much to you, go GET it. I'm serious. If my grandmother had given me something I loved that was irreplaceable and someone had it, I would go get it.

That would make the OP 100 times worse than her MIL. There is no excuse for getting a child involved in adult disputes.

+1. A friend sent a prepaid FedEx box to an ex-boyfriend to get back some expensive things she'd left behind. It worked, but the courier is better here since who knows if MIL would use a prepaid. To the PPs giving OP grief for forgetting stuff. Seriously?

When she comes to your house, sneak into her bag and take her underwear. If she has any expensive jewelry, grab that. Feign surprise and ignorance when she discovers the jewelry is missing. Help her look for it.

Then when she gets home, miraculously discover the missing items and offer to send them back once the dress arrives...

So what is the OP to tell her daughter - oh I keep forgetting to ask grandma for the towel?
