What would you expect from a $270 hair cut & color

My guy would fix this for free. He doesn't want you to be unhappy and he probably doesn't want to lose you as a client. At that price point, he should fix it for free happily.

If he doesn't, go to someone else who can fix it and consider it money well spent.

And agree with a previous poster, it's pretty standard to get lowlights every third or fourth time you do blond highlights, otherwise you pretty quickly start looking like Heather Locklear. I actually take this as a sign of a good colorist - someone who doesn't do lowlights doesn't know what they're doing. But all over dye? Not necessary.

Did you just have this done like yesterday? Give it a week and see if the color fades. (It will definitely fade, and you might be surprisingly happy with the result in a week. To make it fade more, shampoo using hot water and a strong shampoo.)

If you still hate it in a week, then definitely go back to him and have him fix it. He can put blonde highlights back in, he can apply a toner, there are all kinds of things he can do.

That is terrifying to women with blonde highlights. I mean, we get them for a reason. I speak as a person who needs her blonde highlights! This should be colorist 101 people! Go back and tell him you've got the (all over lowlights) and now please put some highlights in, heavy around the face. He shouldn't charge you, but do give him a tip. Then never go back.

So, what anti-depressants are you currently taking?

My stylist, who is also the owner of his salon and charges in the neighborhood of your guy, would freak out and track me down if he found out I was unhappy with a service. He would fix it for free and open the salon early or stay late to do so if that would be more convenient for me. When you pay that much for a hair service you are essentially paying for a guarantee of satisfaction. Call him and let him know you are unhappy! Don't pay him or anyone else to get this fixed. If he expects payment it's time to cut ties and visit yelp.

You are both very sad and immature.

OP, to commiserate, I went to a high end, pricey salon for straightening (the kind that requires heat to have it set into your hair - via a straight iron at the time) - paid WAY to much for it (hundreds) and never went back. I did not want the guy (who owns a popular salon, BTW) to work on my head if he did not know what he was doing. You may be better off going elsewhere.

Okay, Einstein, on what are you basing your aggressive judgment?

OP, here I was confused about the all over dye as well, but figured he knew what he was doing. He is the top stylist at this popular salon in the city!

Thank you to everyone who has offered support. I truly appreciate. Those of you who feel the need to lash out and call me names, if it makes you feel better, knock yourself out!

OP here, I get what you are saying but honestly, I feel he should fix it. I'm waiting to hear back from him.

he should fix it for free. but I went dark once and freaked out b/c it was so dark. it took about 2 weeks for it to fade out a bit and I ended up loving it.

if you really wanted darker hair, all-over color is the way to go. low lights will make your hair darker, sure, but not the way all over color does. your stylist took a chance with your permission, and you didn't like it. oh well. but he should fix it to make you happy.

When highlights are too blonde, then they should pepper in some lowlights. Hair color 101.

I got my hair colored gray when low-lights where put into my blond hair, paid about the same for it.
Never again...now I actually get them done in Europe whenever possible.

Thanks for the laugh! Already I was chortling over the $270.00 cut and highlights, but now someone goes to Europe to color their hair. Here's some advice: You can actually have your hair cut for less than $25.00 ( YEP- you really can, and it will be a fine hair cut) and you can use Nice and Easy for about $7.00.Even less with a coupon. AND IT WILL LOOK GREAT!!!! it's the same crap they use in your salon and it will wash out and/or oxidize at the same rate as your salon color. Your hair will grow out at the same rate and your roots will show the same way. Save your money!

Highlights are a lot different than all over color. You can't replicate highlights at home and it's a skill to do them well.

Also you get what you pay for with a $25 haircut and a $7 dye job. It's fine if you don't care and it's great if you're happy with the results. But don't kid yourself there's no difference.
