| In any event, most restaurants are going to finish this steak in a sizzle pan, not in the grill, so there's no contamination risk. |
| And they will think less of you. |
Who cares? |

For going rare->well of course they will cook your same steak and bring it back to you. Its YOUR steak -- its not like those 3 bites came from someone else.
And raw meat has far more germs than you imparted by the 3 bites, so there is no danger of contaminating the hot grill / pan. Now, if you had ordered a rare steak and it came out well, they certainly cannot uncook a steak. In this case, you should get a brand new steak. |
| Most restaurants will serve lower quality stakes when you ask for well done. You won't be able to tell the difference because you asked for the meat to be overlooked. But, to answer your question, absolutely they should serve the same steak back. Nothing wrong with that. |

Well Done: "Order Chicken Instead" |
One would hope she did not bite right off the steak, but cut pieces with a clean knife. Very few germs would transfer from the eater to a steak. |
+1. This, keep it simple.New steak? Really?!Did somebody else bite into your steak that you don't want it back? |
And the heat should kill the germs!Never mind the steak, what about the bread you got the neighboring table had in front of them earlier?! |
Oh Jesus. The steak police.

I waited tables for years in some pretty nice places. The rule of thumb was that an undercooked steak would be cooked more.
You'd be surprised by the number of people who order their steak well done, but actually meant medium. |
+1 I've never understood the bossy jerks who insist that meat is correct only one way. Frankly, if your meat is dry and tasteless when cooked well done, your steak sucked to begin with. I used to order steaks medium well, but when they started bringing out cool centered, bloody steaks, I started ordering well because after my DC was born I can't stomach the sight or taste of blood. Now I just don't order steak at all because I'm tired of getting attitude. To the bossy steaks bitches: come to my house. I'll serve you all your favorite green jello salads, the slimiest green bean casserole I can muster, and sweet potatoes that are fully half marshmallow. |
No, they stick that in the microwave. I've worked in a restaurant. |
| Most of the time the steak is cooked more, placed on the floor and toilet of the men's room and then rushed to the table. |
Yes it unsanitary to put back on the grill. What do they do with the dishes and stuff...gross. |
