If your DC applied EA to Un. of Vermont...

Sorry OP. It sucks, I know. Hang in there.

you can apply EA AND ED? I did not know that

Of course. They make it so easy for kids. The "rule" is you can only apply to one school ED. Then you can apply to as many EA schools as you want. Unless they are single-choice early-action schools, or maybe restricted early action schools - depending. Then of course there is early action 1 and early action 2, all the while rolling admissions are rolling in. There may be more, but we ran into all of these this year. And DD hasn't even applied to a single school RD yet.

OP,

My child is a senior, also applied to the University of Vermont. Why are you stressing so much? Your child will likely be accepted. Two weeks, and we'll know!

An exception to this might be a recruited athlete.

Not true for GMU. The EA letters (and they are letters not email) roll out earlier for the clear "yes". DC's got theirs Dec. 8th.

Yes, some schools do it this way. They let the top kids know way before the official date. Usually, these kids get "likely" letters, just like many athletes. It does put more stress on those kids who hear about the early Early Admissions, but have to wait until the official date. These same early admits often get better financial aid, and invites to special events on campi that other acceptees do not get.

OP here- still haven't heard anything. DC is taking it well. Me, not so much.
We don't talk about it. Just keep bringing in the mail and focusing on other applications, which unfortunately, are more competitive than UV. I think I'll have DC apply to Iowa.

I really don't know why you are stressing so much. It clearly says on the website the decision release is Dec 17.

She's stressing because apparently she knows some of the tippy-top tier applicants who got letters. Her child's a strong applicant ...

Thank you pp.

OP here - DS is a pretty strong candidate. I'm sure by Dec. 17th we'll hear that he's in. My concern is that I was hoping he would get a significant amount of merit $ to go there. I guess we overestimated his appeal.

DD did this elsewhere. She applied EA so she would have some psychological backup if she didn't get into her first choice ED. It also increases the chances that she will be completely done with the process, which would be nice. Now that we're getting close to notifications I have to say that the stress level seems lower than I'm guessing it is for those waiting in the spring because there are backup plans on top of backup plans, and because she's not waiting with everyone else.

OP, does your kid go to school where a lot of kids apply to UVM? My kid did (UVM was very popular at her hs) and I think that's a major reason why she did not get accepted early action. But she got accepted eventually. I can't speak as to merit scholarships though, which is what you're most concerned about.

Good luck! Hope everything works out.

Don"t read too much into all this. I know a mom of twins. They have almost identical stats. They both applied to the same school EA on the same day. One got accepted weeks ago. The other one still hasn't heard.

OP,

Any news?

Yay! He got in! Thanks for asking. No news about merit money though. Darn.

Congrats. I'm a PP, mine did, too. Good luck on merit money!

My daughter heard from UVM through an invitation to the accepted students group on Facebook. Odd way to do it, I thought.
