Majority percent of Asians at the Elementary school, a good thing right?

To me, Asians means Chinese, South Korean and Indian. They are the preppers; they are the ones for whom academic success is a contact sport. More so with the latter two groups.

Some previous pps are contorting themselves, OP.

"Asian" means "Oriental."

Everyone else -- Indian, Russian, etc. are referred to as that.

"Asian" in this context means people from the Orient. I.e., Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese.

The OP was asking in IRT the stats on a school page that show that a school is majority Asian. That includes EVERYONE from Asia.

I wouldn't prefer a school that was majority Asian. Too competitive, unfriendly and pushy parents, no PTA involvement.

my friend's DS#1 was one of few Asians when entering 1st grade at Greenbriar West three years ago; this year her DS#2 was one of more than half Asian students in the K class. the majority of them Korean (south).

Ditto. Asian women to be bitchy and nosey in a fake friendly way. Ugh!

These folks tend to be totally clueless about American norms/customs and they always say "In my culture, blah, blah, blah." Who gives a shit? You're here now, get with the program!

You probably wouldn't like schools like UCLA, Berkeley, etc. which have extremely high Asian populations.

BTW, your accusations were once leveled at Jews, also a minority ethnic group with extraordinarily high achieving students from modest backgrounds. I'm sure their parents were seen as "competitive" and "pushy" as well.

If you don't like Asians, or even Jews for that matter, PP, you probably wouldn't like the Ivies, where both groups are disproportionately represented relative to their share of the general population.

Looks like mentioning "Jews" in the same sentence with "Asians" is a sure way to silence these racist postings. Good job.

There are many, many different languages (not dialects) spoken in India. Hindi is just one. While there are a few that are represented here more than others, a group of Indians (especially those who aren't friends, but just live in the same area) will likely speak to each other in English, since their native languages may all be different. That's why India has such a big call center business, while China does not...most people in India need at least a little English to get by, and those in big cities need more than that.

In general, they are very accepting of other children, although parents (if they are first generation) will likely be more strict than others, especially about things like dating. If they are 2nd generation or later, I don't think there will be any difference.

Thank you. The Cheese Lady does not believe any ethnic group has smarter children than others, and finds this thread disturbing. There are, however, better schools, for sure--due to resources, and parental involvement, etc.

I think what has gotten people's attention is the explosion of Asians in the last decade. And I seriously doubt there were any elementary or middle schools schools in FCPS that were majority Jewish. What has caused this? H-1b visas?
