Not interested in telling a classically handsome guy to wash his smelly ass. Ugh.

+1. Everything else including wardrobe, hygiene, etc can be changed.

I like an arrogant bad boy. Funny and an asshole. I know.

A confident person says hello. Smiles. Makes conversation. Engages with you. Cracks a joke. Seems genuinely interested in what you have to say. Finds common ground, common interests, to talk to you about.

Just being nice to me is enough to get my interest. I will give almost anyone a chance (can't be outright repulsive, sorry). I don't go for the guys who are leering. That's a big turn off.

That is just good manners - the bare minimum - when you meet someone... Whether there is an interest or not.

so then how do women define confidence in a man? I'm curious as some women have said I'm confident because of X; other women say I'm arrogant because of the same X.

A confident person never needs to put anyone else down or belabor a point in a discussion.
An arrogant person criticizes or argues because s/he knows (or thinks) they're correct.

A confident person gives compliments to others.
An arrogant person gives compliments to themselves and/or critiques the flaws of others.

A confident person jokes good-naturedly and builds rapport by reading social cues, apologizing when they cross the line, and avoiding sensitive issues.
An arrogant person "negs" or otherwise undermines people by exploiting their weaknesses for humor.

A confident man adheres to traditional guidelines of chivalry.
An arrogant man adheres to traditional expectations of male/female power dynamics.

Well stated. Super attracted to confident men. I will add...

A confident person embraces intimacy, reveals their true selves and exposes vulnerabilities.
An arrogant person is terrified of all the above, puts on airs, and excretes weaksauce.

Depends on how you define schlub!

I don't really care about dress and I find the very well put together look pretty unattractive.

However I also find someone who wears dirty t-shirts and torn sweatpants everyday pretty unattractive.

I would take the hot guy over the well dressed guy as long as hot guy is clean, has good hygiene and can dress in basically socially acceptable ways!

I'd take the handsome schlub. He needs to shower daily and wear clean clothes though. I don't mind beards either... they can look hot. I can help him dress up when the situation warrants it.

When I was younger, it would have been the latter, but now that I have lived and learned and am older + wiser, it would have to be the former now.

Like you, I'm older, but only slightly wiser on some, but not all things. I too favor the latter, but now and then the former can be pleasant as well.
