Tip on $15 kid's haircut?

I tip $5 on a good cheap haircut for my kid.

I can also go elsewhere and pay more for a worse haircut where the $5 is the "right" amount. Seems a bargain to be generous on the cheap haircut.

What a bunch of cheapskates!

OP, yes tip $5.

The barber shop we go to usually give my son a good cut, so I have no problem handing them the $20. Especially since I can't imagine they make that much money and the do their best to make him comfortable.

In situations like these, I like to consider who appreciates the $2 more - me or them. I'm fortunate enough that it is them.

Why the hell are you people so cheap?! You claim to make these exorbitant salaries and live these luxurious lives but you aren't willing to just let the person who cut your crazy child's hair keep a $5 tip? You're more worried about your $2 coffee than how little the barber is making off a $15 cut? I swear this site makes me hate people sometimes.

I tip $5 and at holiday time I tip an extra $20.

My son's haircuts are $14. He screams and flails the whole time. I tip at least $10 to cover my embarrassment.

+1.

I waited tables in college. I was lucky enough to be doing it for spending money, but most of my coworkers did it for their living. Believe me, the $2 means more to them than you.

Also, rounding up to the next "even" number will be remembered and get you labeled a "good customer". Which does make a difference in service.

I'd tip $5. It seems cheap to tip less than that if they've spent any amount of time on it and they've done a good job.

This, unless I want to actually give more.

My son's last haircut was $12 and I tipped $5 even though his hair looked crappy. Because she was nice and her job probably sucks and a few bucks is no big deal to me. And DS thought he looked great, so whatever.

So, for a 15$ haircut, you hand 40$?????

20% is the standard tip nowadays.

Yes, I do. It's the holidays and we see her every 6 weeks throughout the year to cut DS's hair. I don't think that kind of holiday tip is unreasonable at all.
