janney families going private instead?

We sent our children to private school instead of Janney. We aren't unique either.

OP here. Private school families inbound for Janney, why you don't buy real estate in a cheaper part of town, since you don't use the public school system anyway?
Anonymous
Many other part of town that are cheaper are ugly or dangerous or both.

b/c it is close to work
b/c I wanted the option of a good public school
b/c Janney will help maintain property values no matter what happens to the rest of the city (rewind to 2007 when Real Estate in some parts of the city went down, AU Park was pretty stable)

Please, if you live IB for Janney, do consider private school. Too many other parents want to send their kids to Janney, and it is getting overcrowded. Also, DC can use your tax dollars.

Can't bear the thought of a long commute to work or being stuck in traffic. Don't like the far out 'burbs. Couldn't live near a strip like Rockville Pike, for example. Don't need a big garden (or a big house, for that matter). Prefer old to new houses. Like to be able to walk to Tenleytown/Friendship Heights, shops, parks, etc.

Ward 3 under 18 population, approximately 10,000
Ward 3 DCPS students, approximately 2500

A lot of people who are inboundary for the better DCPS schools attend privates, a lot attend public.

Why do you care? What difference does it make?

You're also not counting ages 1-4

OK.
School-age population of Ward 3, approximately 7800.
Ward 3 DCPS students, approximately 2500

Is that better?

Yeah why does it matter. Maybe they like the neighborhood. Are you suggesting they move to Anacostia or Congress Heights? By them going private it frees up spots for other families

IB for Janney, sent my child through 4th then got into Latin and left without looking back. Much higher standards and more involvement from teachers. And they get paid less! Janney is beautiful but at the end of the day, they are teaching the exact same material in the exact same way as any other DCPS and I appreciate the flexibility that Latin has to keep classes much smaller and teachers more interesting.

In what way is this responsive to the question asked?

Btw, although many Ward 3 kids end up somewhere besides DCPS, more than 1/2 the kids in DC attend charters, so a lot of those ward 3 kids are not at privates.

Yeah it's so important to not pay teachers a good wage or they get uppity /sarcasm
