OP, you are off base.
Lots of women around the world have children that they can hardly afford and live in despair. There are also tons of women who have babies that they did not plan to have. MOST do NOT kill those children either before or after they are born.
This mother is mentally ill.


In the end, do NOT have sex until you are mature enough to handle the responsibilities.

I'm not so sure. What about the mental illness that can come with abortion, and subsequent child abuse. It would be better to help these mothers though out reach and welfare,...yes, welfare (not a dirty word).

It is time to take a tragic, heartbreaking situation away from a political discussion concerning abortion and simply come together and take a breath and say a prayer for this poor child. Let's not cheapen this story any further by using it as an example supporting political beliefs. I'm not trying to be sanctimonious here, I swear, but the thought of oversimplifying such an occurance in the hopes of converting someone to my way of thinking(pro-choice, BTW), leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. There are a lot of bad things going on in this world-is there a way to help without punching someone else in the nose?

What mental illness associated with abortion? Never heard of that. How would there be child abuse for a fetus that was aborted?

This was an act of delayed abortion. Maybe the mother didn't have the money to abort.

You are correct that there are many unplanned births in the world. Have you also heard that these parents kick their children out of the house to live on the streets. In the end, the kids have to fend for their selves from physical & sexual abuse and become drug-addicted at age 10! There are plenty of street kids in India, Brazil, Mongolia, ... the list goes on.

Your 2nd point is also out-of-touch and preachy. Teens and adults have sex whether or not they are responsible. We can start by teaching proper birth control techniques through health professionals, nurses, anyone who is properly trained rather than learn thru hearsay from other teens.

I agree in principal; however, practically speaking, he may not even know that there is a pregnancy. He may be long since out of the picture.

Ultimately it is we women who bear the responsibility for these situations...which is why it is so important that we and our daughters retain control of our reproductive rights - a rarity in history, worth holding onto....

New poster here. OP obviously meant to start a war here, and used this story to further her political beliefs. It's sickening.

There is no way anyone on this thread is going to change their mind about anything. It's a useless thread. But I bet it will limp along for a few days...and then some troublemaker will revive it in a few weeks.

OP here. The point of the post was to get you to think that getting rid of Roe v. Wade will not get rid of the problem of unwanted babies/pregnancies. We need to approach it comprehensively. Abstinence only programs are a failure. Teach teens about sex and proper birth control. Teach them accurate, factual consequences of unprotected sex: disease, HIV, pregnancy. Get them to think about what they'd do if they were pregnant and had a baby now? While the mother of Maria del Pilar was not a teen, it's apparent she did not get the proper education upfront when she was a teen.
