It isn't accurate to describe the schools in B-CC as "better." The other qualities you describe are purely subjective. Parts of Arlington are quite beautiful, particularly along the parkway and up by the Washington Golf and Country Club. |
Nonsense. B-CC is a superior school, and homes in Bethesda and Chevy Chase are more attractive and more expensive than housing in Arlington. There is very little in Arlington to compare. Sorry. |
| I would say yes, plus higher ed options are better in VA vs. MD, which is why we are choosing Arlington over the other areas. |
wow, nice job to hide your insecurity and low self-esteem you jackass. you made the decision to live in b-c-c, so just enjoy it and don't let objective facts get in the way of your scientific and informed analysis. |
People hope to live in Chevy Chase and Bethesda and settle for Arlington. |
That's just silly. I picked Arlington because I started off in Virginia when I moved here, and eventually moved and settled in N. Arlington because I love it and it feels like home. I have friends who started off in DC and gravitated towards Bethesda. I don't think people are settling for Arlington - it's just another place that is a great fit for some people and not for others. The silly VA-MD "war" is ridiculous. There's more than 1 nice place to live. |

We're in North Arlington. I also considered MontCo, but a similar house similarly close-in to DC with similar schools would have cost the same as my house or more. So I decided there was no point in going to the trouble of changing states.
I think if you're already in Montgomery County and are happy with your schools, coming to Arlington for the schools wouldn't necessarily be a net gain. BCC is supposed to be great- I see no reason to switch. |
| Love n Arlington. Great school, great people. |
| I could not imagine moving from Bethesda or Chevy Chase to Arlington. It would seem like a step down in every possible way. It's certainly not something I would do if a huge mortgage was part of the equation. Who needs the financial pressure if all you get in return is a house in Arlington? |
| Is this a trick question? I have NEVER heard of anyone moving to Arlington of all places for the schools. People move to Fairfax County or Montgomery County. Definitely not Arlington. I am guessing a few schools there are ok, but nobody is going to look to buy your house for the schools. Trust me. They will buy it for the walkability or proximity to DC. |
+1 |
We're in FCPS, but most people I know in Arlington (especially North Arlington) are quite happy with the schools and like them better than FCPS. I do know several parents in MoCo that are quite unhappy with their schools, but I also know some that are very happy. |
| We happily left FCPS for Arlington. It was the right fit for the way we wanted to raise our family. |
Yes, VA has some fine universities, but what's to say that your children are going to want to go to college in Virginia, or that they will be able to get into the VA university they want to, given how competitive spots are for NoVa kids)? A lot of NoVA kids are now going to school out of state. I would never leave Bethesda for Arlington, and I think you are crazy for increasing your mortgage that much just for Arlington schools. MCPS schools, especially in the Bethesda area, are wonderful. |
Do you seriously think real estate values are not tied to school quality? If it's all about being close-in, real estate in southeast and PG County would be worth a LOT more... Of course people are paying huge $$ in Arlington for the schools. |
