How diligent are you with home workout tapes? Favorite tape.

Has anyone used Tracy Anderson's videos?

i lost my baby weight using chalean extreme. it was great because i am limited on time and there is no excuse for just doing it at home.

I workout exclusively to DVDs and I do so about 5 days/week. I've mentioned on DCUM before that I love Cathe Friedrich (have about 50 or so of her workouts). I've also purchased a couple Beachbody programs including TurboFire, Focus T25, Chalean Extreme and Body Beast. I'm doing a Body Beast rotation right now and I'm really enjoying it - I love lifting heaving and I love the shorter workouts! I have one Jillian Michaels DVD (30-Minute Shred) and it's ok, but it's not my preferred type of workout.

I don't have a favorite tape because I get bored. I rotate between 20 or so dvds and I probably purchase a new one monthly.

Anonymous wrote:The problem with PX90 is that it takes too long. At least too long for a working mother. I need something closer to 30 mintues to make it work. I have a number of different DVDs by Jillian Michaels and Jackie (can't recall her last name). If it is 30 minutes I can keep it up b/c its easier to fit into the day. And it is enough (of course more would be better but I don't have that kind of life). And the variety keeps it interesting.

P90X is too much if you're just starting, I agree. That being said, I am a working mom and i work out for an hour five days a week. But I started going twice for 45 minutes and kept increasing it.

I like Jillian Michaels, and I also like The Firm videos.

I did her postpartum one. I really don't have 2 hours to spend exercising like Gwenyth Paltrow. She also believes weights will bulk a woman up, which is wrong...and I say this as a naturally muscular woman.

Insanity. First month DVDs are around 40 minutes, second month 60. To get honest and real results you need a workout longer than 30 minutes IMO

Agree. 30 minutes is not enough time, especially if you are already in (or once you get in) decent shape.

You do not need more than 30 minutes of exercise if you are doing tabata workouts. Please.

Yes, especially the plyometrics videos

i love tracy anderson's metamorphosis program. I use it all the time. And i do agree with tracy's method of working tiny muscles and switching all around rather than working the major muscle groups all the time. I don't want bulk, i just want to be lean and fit.

Not into home video tapes. Would much rather be outside, but that's just me.

30 minutes is better than 60 if you can consistently keep doing the workouts. If someone is short on time, it's good to start with something they can reasonably incorporate into the day and do consistently over a period of time. Then increase the time to 45 minutes, maintain it for a while.

The biggest cause of failure to maintain a workout routine is to do too much at first so that it is unsustainable. The most successful workouts are the one a person actually will continue to do.

Also, I think if you are doing intervals (with light weights and cardio segments), 30 minutes can give you a good workout.

I find as I age, weights actually make my workouts more effective. I think there's an unnecessary fear of "bulking up," but honestly, most weight lifters who "bulk" up lifting REALLY heavy weights and usually taking protein supplements.

I'm talking about hand weights in segments with cardio intervals in between. You won't bulk up using 5 to 10 pound weights.
