how do you like the name "Lillian James"

Reminds me of "Miss Lillian", Jimmy Carter's mother.

I'd have to say that for me, the James is a bit too much like a boy. Even thought the first name is Lillian, I'd still wonder WTF. As an adult, I'd seriously think that she started out as a boy (named James), but had gender reconstructive surgery, and thus, became Lillian. but kept the James to honor the name her parents originally gave her. What about Jamie?

I don't like a boy's name as a middle name.

I absolutely LOVE James as a middle name for a girl!! It is my father's name and I am planning on using it as a middle name regardless if we have a boy or girl. =) BEAUTIFUL. I think a middle name should be used to honor family.

Strange assumption. If anyone assumed anything, it would more likely be that James is a family name-- either a first name of a male relative or your mother's maiden name. Because, you know, gender reassignment surgery is so very common!

Love both. I wish we could use Lillian but it is very popular right now and DH doesn't want a popular name.

Very pretty! And a nice sentiment also

Well I am one of those that dislikes the gender crossing of names. I would recommend that you go with a feminine or gender neutral version like Jamie or a similar feminine name like Jane. Lillian Jane sounds much better to me than Lillian James.

Our daughter's middle name, Frances, is in honor of her paternal grandfather and maternal great-grandfather. In our case, a female spelling of "Francis" existed, but if not I'm sure we would have chosen the male spelling since we wanted to recognize both sides of our family with a beautiful name. So, in short, go for it!

Sounds redneck.

One of the most awesome girls I ever knew was named James. Well her name was Jamie but she went by James. She was beautiful, and athletic and totally confident. All the guys wanted to date her and all the girls wanted to be her. She was a badass.
