Are you shut out? Where are you in? Where are you hoping?

We just gave up our twin's spots at West for PK-3 so there should be some movement there.

We are in at Sela and happily so. Hadn't heard too much about them pre-lottery, so didn't apply. Several kids from my DC's Appletree class are going over. I hope they will be put in the same class. Sela is full, but is taking additional applications for their WL. I encourage you to check it out, if you are shut out from your top choices.

Completely shut out pk3. Hilarious waitlist numbers. We are going private, which I am fine with because I don't think he is ready for full-day anyway, but the nanny for our new baby child plus part-time preschool for our 3 year old is going to kill us financially. Based on our experience, we are looking for a house in a good school district, which, if we even can find one for 600,000, will also kill us financially. Sucks.

why are you sending your child to part time preschool instead if keeping him/her with the nanny? I kept my kids in daycare until they wen to prek4 (the young one had a January birthday, she will finish daycare this week and will go to pre-k4 in September, at 4yr and 8 months. my neighbor has two kids and they both stayed with nanny until 4 when they went to pre-k 4 (our IB school does not offer prek3) and they both are doing great in school and are very happy kids. if it is hard to afford it, why are you doing it?

Is everyone here just looking at PreK3/PreK4? I don't know if it's true, but I've heard K and 1st are easier, and that 2nd+ even easier than that (supposedly more places up at more schools in higher grades).

for now that is true, but in a couple years, which increased demand, it will be the same crush. It was easier to get into charter and oob slots for prek a couple years ago.

Because the nanny will be home with a newborn for 6 months at least, perhaps up to a year - preschool gets him out of the house three days a week. I don't want my 3 month old scream crying at story time or fussing in a stroller (based on my first, I don't have "easy" babies).

I could have written your post, except this is the second year I was completely shut out. We'll be doing private again while house hunting AGAIN. Our price range is 750K and to my dismay that won't get me far in the areas where we're looking. We both work 12h days and travel all across the city for work, so living far out of the city would ruin our home life (I'm just posting that in case someone gets snarky over our price range and need to live close to the city proper).

Where were you when the suggestion arose for the Parks & Rec co-op? It runs through age 5, very cheap, lots of parental control especially through the better rec centers (i.e., Chevy Chase).

and maybe you could STFU? We could both "maybe" do things. I'll continue to do whatever the hell I please. Thank you, troll.

Who is this awful and relentless "STFU" poster? I so wish she would take her own advice and then take a break from DCUM to enroll in an anger management course and perhaps even attend a finishing school to help her clean up her act and start communicating like an adult. It makes me sad to imagine the sort of language and behavior she exposes her children to each day. I'm guessing as a child she was the kid that parents felt was a toxic influence. in any case, I truly hope she is not a parent at my child's DCPS.

Potty mouth. The last retort beyond a full blown temper tantrum. Don't hold your breath, 'kay? 'Cause we can't tell if you're turning blue.

I don't think only one poster uses "STFU" in this section of DCUM, but I still agree with every word you said about *THIS* particular STFU poster. It's childish, annoying, and makes me sad for her kids.
