My baby just had a seizure.

My dog has had a couple -- she's eight now. I think it's not unusual at alla nd if necessary can be treated with Rx. We decided not to because they were so infrequent.

He seems to be his old self, however I spent the night constantly awake starting at him and making sure he was okay. I even error him up a few times just to be sure. I know this sounds weird, but I really love this dog as if he were my child.

I also gave him extra treats.

Do you have a child? Because I don't think anyone who had a child would ever say they loved a pet as much as a human child.

I think your thread title was an exaggeration and probably panicked a few parents on this forum before they realized it was a grown dog having a seizure, not a baby.

It's in the "pets" forum, so it seems it was clear that she was talking about a pet. She's entitled to love her pet like a child. And who are you to tell her if she does or not? I know people who take better care of their pets than many parents I've seen care for their children.

I get so irritated when people get so offended and worked up if a dog owner says she loves her dog like a child. It's like parents get all self-righteous and offended.

As others have pointed out, it's in the "Pets" forum. She wasn't "pretending." You just didn't read. Even in the "Recent Topics" area, it clearly lists what forum each post is in.

I knew exactly what she meant.

Op here. I honestly didn't even know there was such a thing as "recent topics". I just thought everything went into the forum you specify. Either way, pps are right, and it does clearly state it. Some people just have better reading comprehension skills, I guess.

And yes. I do love my dog like he is my child. I have no human children, and he is the closest thing I've got. Who is anyone to tell me I can't possibly love him as much as a human? To the person asking if I've ever even had a child: have you ever had a dog ? If so, you must know or be able to imagine what I'm going through, unless you are a heartless person. If not, then you have absolutely no idea what I'm going through and should probably just butt out now.

P.s.

Dog is doing seemingly fine, although he was really gassy yesterday. I'm guessing it was all the treats my family showered him with when we got home from the animal hospital.

Unless you gave birth to a dog the dog is not your baby. You will make the real mom angry.

Poor dog! It will be ok. Just listen to your vet. My cousin has an epileptic dog, I think she's 12 yrs old now and has had the problem for years. She has a great life.

Yes, I'm PP and yes, I've had three dogs over the course of my life.

And no, I didn't love them anywhere near how much I love my child, though I loved them very much. It's not even close.

This is ridiculous. Who the hell are you to tell OP she can't call her dog her baby?
Anonymous
Sometimes I really hate people on this forum. And I'm not talking about OP.

OP, I get it. I have kids and a dog. I love that furry little gal so much!

Anyway, I know 3 people with epileptic dogs. Never knew it was so common. So, if it ends up being epilepsy (probably not cause your dog would have likely had earlier seizures) it can easily be controlled with inexpensive meds.

I hope he's okay!
