AAP Center Orientation Dates

Anonymous
Oh... this is interesting. I called our Center the other day (only because my calendar fills up so early) to find out, but they said they didn't have it scheduled yet (and it would be in the letter).

I didn't realize this is "guarded" information. That seems sad, but maybe practical. It never occurred to me that parents of students who don't get in might want to go just to see who did get in. On the other hand, if you appeal (and get in), it would be a shame to have missed the orientation.

But what do I know...

Not much, with that gratuitous troll comment.

OP here. I don't think this is a gratuitous troll comment. The AAP orientation/open houses are intended for those who are accepted on the first round. It's a dog & pony show to convince parents to move their child to the AAP center. Families are invited in their AAP acceptance letter. Anyone else who shows up is technically a gate-crasher. That said, it makes total sense that parents who are appealing would still want to attend the orientation. I think it's a failure on the part of the AAP office that there isn't a second open house later in the year for those who successfully appeal. I guess they assume if you're appealing you'll go to the center no matter what.

PP, It's self evident that the orientation is for those that have been accepted. Don't you think that if your child gets in to aap on appeal that you will have the opportunity get all the orientation information and more by setting up a meeting at the center? I'm sure FCPS has orientation procedures for appeals students. Why don't you contact the central office find out.

If you get in on appeal, call the school. They will do something. The thing is the initial group may be 100+ kids. They can not accommodate 100's of people individually. The 10 or so per school can be accomindated informally. There will not be the big dog and pony show, but the information will be out.
