Tell me about changes that made a difference in your well being

Before I commit to something, I ask myself whether it really matters and is in line with my priorities. This was spurred by the amount of time I spent making my kids' Halloween costumes last year. I work FTOH, so my evening and weekend time with the kids is precious. I am learning that you can't "do it all" and it's a liberating feeling.

I feel light years better since I starting taking a probiotic. After years of going to stupid doctors with all sorts of complaints I was able to clear up most of them with just that one thing.

I get 8+ hours of sleep. Every night.

I don't understand the people who think they should eschew coffee. Why? It's packed with antioxidants and has been demonstrated to be protective against Parkinson's and similar diseases in epidemiological studies.

Giving up a daily 700 calorie mocha ice cream caramel Barbuck's special, sure. But there's no reason to cease having a cup of plain coffee every morning. Really.

Recently cut soy, dairy, gluten and sugar from my diet. I have so much more energy!

I am one who said I should give up caffeine but I haven't. I have on several occasions, and I always feel better. More natural and better sleep. But then I start again...

Ok, here's small for you: I gave up OJ in the AM. Instead, I eat either fresh grapefruit or orange. Been doing this about 2 years, now "processed" OJ tastes strange to me and I really miss my fresh citrus if I don't have it.

For those who want to drink more water but find it boring, as do I, I just discovered a brand called Hint and Hint Fizz, which is infused with fruit favors and has no sweeteners. It makes drinking water way easier for me, a Diet Coke addict. You can eat it at Whole Foods and Harris Teeter, and other places if you Google it. Of course you could make your own, too, but I am too lazy to do that!

OP here- I just bought some probiotic at WF today! Here's hoping it has the intended consequences! Thank you to all PPs for your thoughtful responses. I truly appreciate it.

Amen sista! I also haven't volunteered for one classroom party this year. I send in treat bags and a note! Done.

Speak for yourself. After I gave up my morning coffee, I found it much easier to wake up because I no longer have that groggy feeling. Also, I no longer have the mid-afternoon crash.

OP said SMALL changes. No booze? Going to bed at 10:30? Sheesh.

OP, I'm not convinced wrt small changes. For the past month, I've been cutting calories (nothing drastic, just being mindful), drinking (some) more water and (some) less soda, and walking at least 45 minutes every day. Now I'm constantly aware of my food and feeling bad about something that used to actually give me pleasure. I'm often a little sore from the extra exercise. And if anything, my skin has gotten worse.

I think in order to see any real effect, I have to join Weight Watchers and a gym, start getting facials and buying spendy creams and stuff, and just become one of those obnoxious self-centered professional dieter/ exercisers. You know, the kind who insists they can't parent effectively if they haven't been to the gym today, or who judge folks who even smell fast food...

Everyone is different, I guess. Me? I love the feeling of being sore the next day. Being mindful of my food means I enjoy what I eat.

What are the intended consequences of a probiotic?

Every probiotic I've encountered (and admittedly, it's not many) were gross-tasting and expensive. I might start a s/o thread to find out what people use...
