Where's the list Kaya?

Boooooo! Should have been at least one or two more ward 6 schools. Cowards.

Ward 5 is fighting to not have the bus/street car barn house over there. For that alone, I am not surprised that that school is on the list.

I wonder if SWS will get Prospect Learning Center? That's a pretty valuable building in terms of location right now...

I love how they always fly the DC flag upside down (The international symbol of distress) there.

thank your for your response. I just went and google this and it seems that the excuse is low enrollment therefore no money for librarians, etc. Depressing

Low enrollment is not an excuse, it's a reason.

Only one Ward 5 elementary according to this--Marshall. Am surprised about Francis Stevens and Garrison to some extent.

Had the exact same thought. Probably a better landing place than Van Ness, which is well located but reportedly in need a significant capital improvements.

Wonder where the MacFarland kids will go?

Interesting thought. But the idea behind the sws expansion and relocation was for it to become a regular neighborhood school. I am sure that area already has a neighborhood school. Makes more sense to move Sws to the van Ness building over near the Navy Yard to serve that growing neighborhood that doesn't even have a neighborhood school ( they are supposed to cross south capitol and trek all the way to Amidon Bowen)

If you follow that logic, you either need new boundaries, or SWS has to fill in the gaps created by closures. The broader Hill neighborhood is well served by it's packed successful ES options (Brent, Mauy), and underenrolled/largely OOB for its less favored options (Ludlow Taylor is the neighbhorhood school, and IB families peel off by K). The Stanton Park neighborhood and the Hill in general are the target families for SWS. PLC makes a lot of sense.

Well, the neighborhood school is Ludlow-Taylor, under enrolled and a large Ward 9 contingent. Plus there is the fact that test scores plummeted once the erasing slowed down.

I think the neighborhood would be elated to have SWS as an inbound school.

There are only about 100 students at MacFarland.

Francis-Stevens has 200 kids in PS to 8 with 24% in boundary. It will feed to Hyde-Addison. Ross will take over Garrison space.

Francis will be used for SWW

And then Ross can expand enrollment and continue being a successful school for more kids. Win-win. Some tiny charter will then take over the Ross building.

No it won't. School Without Walls just underwent an expansion and has a coveted partnership with GW.
