| Inaccurate pricing happens all the time at Target. Sometimes it's the result of items being shifted from the area where the price sticker is tacked but even if you make an effort sometimes it's impossible to determine the correct price. And sometimes you can't tell the sticker refers to another item. This irritates me to no end. You should not have to work to find out the price. |
| Target has scanners all over their stores where you can check the price before purchasing if you can't figure it out. |

This happened to me a lot when I shopped at Safeway and it was infuriating. I used to check my receipts after each shopping trip and would find discrepancies just about every time. And then I got attitude from the employees when i insisted that they fix it.
To all the people saying we need to pay attention, I agree to a point, but -- as a PP said, it is really hard to keep track of sale prices when the discounts don't appear on the tally until the end, and more importantly, shouldn't we be able to assume that the company won't be systematically ripping us off? I know supply/demand is totally skewed around here, but come on, is there no limit to what we will put up with? Can't we at least vent about it without being lambasted? |
| Not if the vent mentions repeatedly stewing about it but refusing to do anything as basic as going to the customer service desk to get it corrected! |
Giant overcharges ALL THE TIME. I do the self-scan, so I see it as it happens. I go to customer service. They refund the difference. I've never had them give me the item for free, though. I'm skeptical that it's inadvertent at this point because there are so many mistakes. |
| I agree with the poster who said you all should not be allowed out in public if you find this so difficult. I grew up penny pinching too (and still do penny pinch) and my mom taught me to check as things were being rung up. Just give your discount card before they start ringing up your groceries, and then it will show the sale price when the cashier rings it up. And, if you arrive home without one of your bags, then that is your fault, not the cashier's or the bagger's. Start paying attention - sheesh! Lastly, if a mistake has been made, keep your receipt and bring it to the manager's desk the next time you go. It's really not that difficult. It's things like this that just make me shake my head and feel like our generation really is plagued by learned helplessness. I mean, really. You should be embarrassed by the fact that you find this so difficult. I guess you only posted b/c it's anonymous but, honestly, if you said this to me in person, I'd be like, "This is the most clueless, idiotic person. I think she was born yesterday and/or with a silver spoon in her mouth." |
| PP, you must not have kids or have a nanny so that kids don't coming shopping with you. Have you tried to unload your cart, keep your toddler occupied as you checkout and pay attention to the prices as they are rung up at the same time? |
| I'd say this happens every time I go to a large store (Giant, Safeway, Target, Walmart). I think most people just don't pay attention and so don't realize how often it happens. I'd estimate 90% of the time it is in the store's favor. They will correct it, but it's time consuming, and frustrating. I agree that we shouldn't let them get away with it. |
So there should only be life altering posts on here?? No more little problem post? Yeah...

Hmm... they've always given DH the item for free. In fact, now he watches the prices VERY CLOSELY and gets excited if he catches a mistake, to the point where it's a little game for him and it's gotten a little weird. It is fairly frequent. |
Ha! As I said, I am a penny pincher so no way no how do I have a nanny. I have one child who is 4.5. She knows to sit still and be quiet b/c I need to concentrate when the cashier is ringing things up. That has been drilled into her by now. And, if I need him/her (the cashier) to stop so I can clarify something, I speak up and ask right then and there. I know there are also people who will think, "Oh, you only have 1. . .you just wait," well, I am the oldest of 6 and did it while shopping with my younger siblings, as did my mother, of course. I've been doing it since I was a teenager. Just don't get addled or flustered; slow down and pay attention; you have just as much right to make sure it is done correctly as everyone else does. |
No. That's not what I said. Nice fucking eye roll, btw. |
