I guess this is my pet peeve because it irritates me disproportionate to the amount of money involved.
DH says, if you feel so annoyed, just go to the store manager and ask them to replace the item and they will. But I figure why bother so I just sit here annoyed instead, resolving to pay even more close attention at the checkout next time. Examples: -I go out for about four bags of groceries. One entire bag, containing all the vegetables, was not placed into my cart by the checker before he waved me off. -I go out for groceries, and buy 4 12-packs of soda, get charged for five. |
| I don't sympathize. Especially after reading about these nanny killings, your post sounds so self-centered. Really. Just look at your receipt and count your bags before you leave the store. |
|
1. Yes, pay attention better.
2. Just go back to the store and tell them what you didn't get. My sister was overcharged by $6 for a Brita filter last week and when she went back inside, they refunded her the entire cost of the filter ($21). I get it's annoying but if you're not going to go back knowing they would easily and nicely fix the problem, what are ya bitchin for? |

1. Yes pay more attention
2. Watch them ring up the groceries, you can catch errors right then 3. Talk to the manager if you catch after being rung up 4. If you choose not to do anything about, stop stewing |
| OP, inaccurate pricing and store errors (nearly always in the store's favor) are one of my hugest peeves. I don't get the responders who aren't bothered by this. Hello? This is your money. You are giving it to the store. The least they could do is be accurate when pricing and checking out. The number one thing that happens to me is a discrepancy between advertised price and the price that's listed in the store's computer. I also hate having to work to find a price. Shopping is hard enough. I always (at least when I'm shopping w/o my kid) check my receipt before leaving the store and will get a pricing problem resolved. Usually they are nice about it but I have no problem asking for a manager when I need one. If people don't demand accurate pricing and decent customer service retailers won't feel an obligation to provide it. |
+1 Especially as this happens while you put your groceries on the counter, so you can't really "pay attention". PPs, do you really go through your bags to make sure all your items are there before leaving the store? |
| I do pay attention, but I grew up poor. Those are unaffordable mistakes. |
| Where do you people shop that these things are rampant? Maybe you need to find a new grocery store. Or use the self check aisles. |
| DH discovered that if Giant over-charges him on an item (like if it says it's on sale and he's charged full price in the aisle) he can go to customer service and they'll just give him the item for free. |
NP here. Safeway. I've had to take the clerk to an aisle to show them the advertised price to get it corrected. I try to watch as things ring up and ask to verify that BOGO items ring up correctly, etc. |
Safeway here as well. When I go to customer service to get it fixed, they give me my refund, but they don't bother fixing it in the system. It's as if they are playing the odds... |
I agree with this. Another thing that makes it hard is done stores don't discount the promotional prices until the end so is really hard to tell if you were charges correctly...even when looking at the receipt in some cases. I can't imagine checking all my bags before leaving, but I can't imagine relinquishing control of the loading to anyone either. |
| There is a reason I don't shop at Safeway or Giant...awful stores. Low quality food and overall sloppy service. |

First of all, you say you grew up poor but you pay for plastic bags and you don't bag your own groceries in your reusable bags and put them in your cart? Where the heck are you shopping? Le Petit Gourmet Deli?
I don't buy that this happens constantly. You sound too sensitive to live on this earth. |
I get being irked about overcharging, but it's pretty ridicule to say, "the clerk didn't give me all of my bags." More accurate would be, "I left a full bag of groceries at the store." And if this happens often, you truly are to stupid to be out in public by yourself. |
