I am really short but don't have dwarfism - ask away!

Isn't the average height of American women only 5'3" or 5'4"? So really most of you are just average and not even tiny. Now 4' 11" is tiny.

Hah mini-women! I think they consider 5'4" and under petite height-wise but it's also a proportion: shorter arms and legs with narrow shoulders.

Me here. Yup, generally have that problem with lengths of sleeves and pants. Lands End is good for pants (as a PP mentioned) because they hem for free. I have a 27 inch inseam. Long trench and winter coats look weird on me. They engulf me and reach to my ankles. I look like a sorceror or something. I generally stick with car coat length.

The average height for women keeps creeping up. Now it's 5'5" for American white women. I can't keep up as a shortie. But Joan of Arc was only 5 feet tall and she was fierce.

That's hilarious! I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I wear tall-lady capris as long pants (looks down, embarrassed).

were your kids ever in the 5th percentile for height? I'm 5'2", DH is 6'1" and DD is in 3rd percentile for height at age 3.

4'11" here. Yeah I'm tiny. Was so excited when I found petite short jeans at Macy's that did not need to be hemmed!!!

Gee, I didn't know there were so many short people on the DCUM. Guess that's why they call DC Hollywood for ugly people. Just kidding, short women are cute-hot but I hope those 5 foot 2 posters are not men!

Does it seem weird to you that your kids are so much taller than you? My kids are young still, so I couldn't imagine "looking up" to talk with them. I'm 5'9 and so is DH, so that probably won't happen in my case, though.

My kids were in the 10th percentile, and that is not really indicative of future height. It depends on nutrition/diet, sleep, genetics and when they hit puberty; my PCP said women only grow 1-2" after getting their period. All though childhood I was in the 50th percentile in height but go my period at quite young and I was pretty much done. I was the tallest kid in my kindergarten class.

It threw me off at first but now I'm used to it. If you and DH are both 5'9", your kids might be taller than that. Kids are typically taller than their parents.

Yes, used to be. I read somewhere (can't find a link) that this is the first generation of Americans that isn't destined to be taller than their parents. If I recall correctly, it had to do with the nutrition/food. Interesting.

That's interesting bc I think that at least with people I know eats infinitely better than 15 yrs ago.

People are consuming a lot of nutritionally empty, processed crap these days.

4'11" here too, and my son's day care provider is even shorter than me! I feel so odd when I talk to her because I'm not looking up - really not used to that!

Lol! I didnt know there were so many short tall combos on DCUM. I am a 5 footer with 6' 4'' husband. When we are out, I have never seen any other couple with such difference.
