I went to Big 3 K-12. I now live in Silver Spring and send my kids to public school ask me anything

Who cares? No one has ever asked me in a caring way where I went to elementary school or high school except in general conversation. We went to public schools. Our neighbors went to fancy private schools. They are doing no better than we are doing.

As we sit here thinking about private schools, I have to admit that's the thing we keep coming back to. We can't afford to do both. However, we're in DCPS and so it's play the lottery or do the private thing.

Me too!

I did too (live in Potomac so great public, but never considered private). The education just isn't significantly better, period. The parents are a nightmare. My friends who went to public (granted they are self selected from my Ivy and work contacts) are just as smart and successful as my Big 3 friends.

Those schools are status symbols for the parents. Bottom line. It wasn't that way back in the 80's when I went, but it absolutely is now.

Can't afford it, I take it?

Do your kids go to a Magnet school?

Are you so starved for attention at home that you feel compelled to post yet another of these absurd "ask me anything" threads?

I wonder if you realize what a gigantic douchebag this post makes you sound like?

That's how I know most of the friends I made as adults. You're missing the point. I don't work in a fancy or high paying industry, but I obviously made a lot of my post- high- school friends in college. The argument could then be mad that those were the most successful students from their high schools. Clearer?

Funny, I thought the douchebag part of that post was this:

(live in Potomac so great public, but never considered private)

We weren't ever considering private - long before moving to Potomac we'd decided on public. But, whatever.

I guess OP's point is that s/he is slumming it now despite her "Big 3" experience in the formative years. I mean, Silver Spring AND public school - wow! I bet OP shops at Giant, too.

I thought the gratuitous Ivy reference was the douchiest part, but I see your point.

You are still missing the point (despite your Ivy background etc.). There are great publics all over MoCo, not just in Potomac. But in your mind, Potomac (as opposed to other area) schools are per se great.

Yes, the Silver Spring part is key to making her a fascinating figure.

Maybe she even shops at Snider's.
