I understand the mathematical difference. My point, as I said, is that for a politician and non-runner, it's not at all surprising that he "mis-spoke." |
The guy is a total fitness buff. Saying he "misspoke" is being far too charitable. |
To stand on stage at the RNC and deliver a speech that even Fox News proclaimed as filled with lies is telling. I think some people find it really easy to lie. Ryan is obviously one of those people. Most ( all?) politicians lie during campaigns, but this guy takes it to another level. The GOP ticket now has Romney who stands for nothing and everything, and Ryan who is a serial liar. Great. |
This is a huge difference, It is like saying you played in the NFL when you actually were just a third stringer in high school. Why would you lie about this? Does anyone really care how fast he runs a marathon, It is a troubling look into his character. |
Actually, the people who would be interested in how fast he ran a marathon run marathons themselves and get that this is a big lie! "Breaking the code" said it right! |
A few points:
Governor Kasich used Biden's golf fibs to impeach the VP's honesty, so lying about sports is already on the table as a no-no. Ryan's forte is budgeting, so number-fudging is a particularly important sin for him. OTOH, I think we should stop repeating the "even Fox News" line when it was a liberal guest columnist. |
By that logic, a knowing, willful sports liar is VP. I'd say that makes Ryan's lie look more tactful. Taking a play from the dem's play book. Worked for Biden. |
I don't think marathon runners are a politician's target audience. |
Even Fox news has something to say about Lyin' Ryan:
Fox sums up his speech in three words: http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/08/30/paul-ryans-speech-in-three-words/ |
Whether Biden lied about golf is subject to interpretation. Here is Kasich's accusation: "Joe Biden told me that he’s a good golfer and I can tell you that’s not true..." This occurred after Kasich and Biden were teamed against Obama and Boehner and lost. Boehner said that Kasich was so nervous, "I thought John Kasich was going to cry." |
If by this you mean "for a self-aggrandizing snake in the grass, it's no wonder he lied about this just like about everything else," then we are in agreement. |
Does anyone have anything to say about the completely typical way in which Ryan refused to take responsibility for the lie, acting like shaving 25% off his only (not "best") time was just a little slip-up that his brother caught? His brother and the entire country. What a piece of work. |
I get my news from DCUM. So I'll take the bolded as Gospel. And by your quote, if Kaisich says Biden lied about being a good golfer, that's good enough for me. |
Sure, I'd say "typical politician-speak". (not defending it; just saying). |
As a Veteran Marathon runner, in the age 70+ class. I have completed both NY and Boston, in sub 4:45 times. Let me assure you that anyone misrepresenting their finishing time is regarded as the lowest of the low. People who do that are regarded as cheating, low life, slime balls. There is a unwritten honor code amoung athletes and lying about your accomplishments is just about the worst of the worst. You'll never hear a runner round off their time, we're usually excruciatingly boring to listen to, we're exact, talking about our times to the tenth of a second. |
