I'm truly scared for our nation. Not because of what the Repubs are doing and saying, but for the fact that they just don't get called on it. Lies are left to hang out there. The general public is not reading all these fact-checker sites. Everyone gets their news from a source that already aligns with their worldview, so they never hear both sides of the story. People hear Paul Ryan say something, and they're going to assume he's telling the truth. It started with Sarah Palin - she would repeat lies over and over. I guess they figured it was a successful strategy.

I think you're full of it, or at least relying on biased sources. Obama is pretty much a moderate Republican from twenty years ago. He - and this great nation - need to swing the pendulum back to the Progressive side of the aisle. Because for the last few decades the fob has been on the regressive/conservative side. How's life generally gotten for your average American? Better? More job security? Relative to what they're position would have paid back then, what do they earn now?

It's hard to steer a boat forward when the Republicans are all shoving their oars down on the right side of the boat while the Democrats try to paddle. How does anyone steer that ship? I'd really reconsider. Of course, with Romney there'd really be no rudder at all.

This is exactly right. Other than increasing taxes on those making over $250,000 each year, VIrtually every one of Obama's major policy initiatives started as a REPUBLICAN proposal. Now, a mere 15-20 years later, they're advanced socialism and portend the end of the Republic. To say Democrats need to swing to the center when Republicans keep moving the Center towards the right is absurd.

Agreed, but it seemed like the press was doing a better job of letting people know what was true. Now, it just seems like all these people live in this alternate world where their perceived reality is totally different from the truth. Maybe that was always the case, not sure.

Where have you been since Wens night? The media has done nothing BUT pick apart Ryan's speech, line by line, in an attempt to "expose" the untruths and misinformation. Read the WashPost from yesterday if you don't believe me.

My theory is Obama couldn't be progressive (push liberal programs) because his fundraising from big business would have dried up. I'm no policy wonk obviously, but I think he held back on purpose. If he has the good fortune to be reelected I think he would try swinging from center/center-right to center-left with a vengeance.

I sure hope he is reelected.

D.C. is a very liberal town compared to the Midwest and the South...East Coasters don't realize how incredibly conservative these states are.
