I had plastic surgery. Ask me anything.

What chest size did you go to? Would you recommend your doc?

My chest is now a full B / small C, I think. Haven't officially gotten measured.

I think I would recommend my doctor, Frank Richards. He did a great job on the TT. I'm a little frustrated about having to get a revision on the breast aug, but I can't say he did anything to cause the complications. I think it just happens to some unlucky people.

Do you have any numbness in your midsection after the tummy tuck?

Are you married/kids? What did DH/kids think? Do you feel like you are setting a bad example for your kids?

Married with two kids, who were 5 and almost 3 when I had surgery. DH was happy with me before but wanted me to do what made me happy. Re the kids, I think regardless of what I do, they're going to be exposed to the fact that certain physical traits are considered more attractive. And I think overall it's better to have a mom who is happy and confident in her body and motivated to exercise and be healthier.

How do you justify taking the physical risk for something so (literally) superficial? Why not just be happy with the body you had? (This sounds super snarky but it's an honest question... I would have never considered surgery before but I get it now and am trying to figure out why)

Yeah, remember Donda West, Kanye's mom? She died from complications from elective plastic surgery. I also read that Kathy Griffin had critical complications from liposuction surgery.

I think the risk of life-threatening complications for me, a healthy 36yo, is less than the risk of getting into an accident on the beltway. And of course it's wise to go with an experienced surgeon with a good track record. But to address the crux of your question -- yes, I did take a physical risk for aesthetic reasons. I just didn't, and couldn't, feel happy with the body I had. I guess I'm not as strong as some. I feel a lot better about my body now, and it's making me want to be a healthier, more fit person. I feel fortunate I had the means to do it.

Ironic?? because the society, culture and socio-economic class that made this possible may have also made you think what you were born with wasn't enough.

Not sure I understand this. I suppose societal standards of beauty probably contributed in part to my desire to have the surgery, but i think I would have felt the same way even if I lacked the money to get the surgery.

I have heard of people finding out how many pounds of skin and fat they lost, but I didn't. At least, I don't remember finding out.

Definitely get a few consults to see whether you only need lipo or would get better results with a TT. The doctors I consulted with had differing opinions on whether I could get away with lipo. In the end I'm glad I did the TT. And you should know that lipo is very painful in its own right, so pain is not a reason to skip the TT ( though of course the extra cost might be a good reason).
