105 MPH on the beltway gets off with a warning?

Remember even after their arrests that much of PG's political class didn't want to criticize Jack and Leslie Johnson because of all of their "service to the community."

Anyone who drives 105 mph on the Beltway or elsewhere should be cuffed along side of the road and be undergoing a full body cavity search.

Ok, the cavity search is optional. But, really, what would happen to the typical driver being chased by police at 105 mph around this town? And the beltway is as opposite from wide open highway as you can get.

For sure a reckless and quite possibly even getting your butt hauled into jail and booked for a few hours.

I don't live in PG. I have never lived in PG, but I do have family and friends who live in PG. I don't recall one person trying to give the Johnson's a pass. I don't recall one news report or article reporting what you just made up PP. Frankly, I heard just the opposite. People who lived in the county were disgusted, as they rightly should. As for the political class, I don't think it was a matter of not wanting to criticize, I think they simply desired to remain moot, just like so many of our federally elected politicians throughout the country when someone on their side of the political divide is busted.

Jeez. That little kid in Arlington got in worse trouble for playing tag at recess (see other post in Off-Topic).

105 on the beltway is freaking nuts and could easily kill and severely injure multiple carloads of people. Unlike playing tag, for instance.

I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of us had to surrender our license on the spot if we were clocked at 105 mph.

I saw a teen girl hauled off to jail for going over 90 in a 45. She was in the courtroom laughing with her friend, she clearly did not understand the sentence the judge was reading off until they handcuffed her. She started crying as soon as she realized she was going to jail. I think she was given 30 or 60 days with all but 10 day suspended.

This was in Virginia.

May well have saved her life.

And the article said she was "belligerent" to the officers. That alone should result in more than a warning.

This is a very veiled racist thread. We know what you mean. Go ahead and spill it.

Not racist or sexist. It's because the driver was a local politician in a government (i.e., taxpayer) owned SUV. The officer probably ran the plate and knew that it was a government official before the wheels stopped turning. Many of us are writing from the perspective of knowing what would have happened to us if we had done the same.

Besides, it was Tony Kornheiser (white guy) who famously said "Do you know who I am!?"

16:19 PP here. How so? I didn't even know the race of the driver until I just looked an article up. Does anyone know the race of the officer? And, if so, why does it matter?

Are we supposed to announce the race of everyone when discussing traffic issues? Did you want the rundown of the race of the people in the story I mentioned? The teen was white. Is it only white people who get jailed for 90+mph speeding?

Why does any politician get a vehicle issued to them? Why do citizens need to pay for that? I drive my own car to work. If they have to drive for work, pay them mileage, but they don't need vehicles.

It's racist because if it were a white local politician your argument is that she would have been given the $500 speeding ticket? I'm confused which way the racism argument runs here. Actually because I don't think it's racist at all.

I'm a PG County resident and I don't excuse Jack Johnson's behavior. I'd wager a guess that neither of you know anyone who excused them either (outside of other lawless politicians). Blaming county residents for the actions of some unscrupulous politicians is really lame.

So, if she killed people - no matter WHAT car she was driving- would they have pretended to not see that also? A cop was chasing her yet they allegedly don't know how fast she was going? They are kidding, right?
