Sadly, this is where the spoiled brats learn their sense of entitlement. I think the media should publicize the photos of the parents that allow the parties to take place. That might make them think twice.

Channel 9 would never show any photos of anyone. Notice that they only showed tape of kids from their butts on down. There is absolutely no law that says that a photo or a tape of a kid can't be show on television but the stations are scared %$#less of the wealthy parents that send their kids to Whitman. Notice that the reporter said that some parents threatened to sue the police! For what? For breaking up a party where alcohol and drugs were served.

Yes but I think there are laws about naming or showing faces of minors. There are no such laws to protect the parents. I say print their names in the paper, show faces if possible. I think we need to bring shame back into our culture.

There are no laws about showing anyone's face. The public believes that there are laws against photography. If you are in public anyone can take your photo whether you be five or eighty-five. There are also no laws saying that a newspaper or a tv station cannot report the names of people who are charged with a criminal offense no matter what their age. There is a law that prohibits the police from releasing the names of people charged as juveniles.

I went to Whitman many years ago and the parents are the same at many schools but the wealthier schools are different becuase they feel they are entitled to being treated differnetly.

Hi. I am a student at Churchill. Here's my take in case anybody cares:

The college search/application process is already gruesome and horrible. A citation heavily affects a school's decision to admit or deny students. I know this because of my brother's grade. These kids are already embarrassed as it is. There is absolutely no need to publicly humiliate these kids. Imagine the psychological damage this could do to kids that are already under a stressed environment.

I'm not suggesting that this behavior should be condoned. I am just saying that public humiliation should not be the way to go.

Also, in response to "I'm surprised, I would have thought that Churchill parent would be more obnoxious." Parents should have the decency to not judge the parents of another school based solely on hasty generalizations. Even us students know not to do that.

You are right. We should all know better than to do that. Thanks for posting.

Ridiculous. Where was the administration while these kids were being harassed? Why are parents enabling this kind of cyber-bullying? This is just so sad.

What do you want them to do? Assign an administrator to every kid? Most of it was by Facebook or Twitter and the school has no control over that. What it does show is that the Whitman/Churchill students and most of their parents believe it is their right to drink. Now that the liquor store has been exposed they will have to work harder to get their weekend beer and liquor.

Just to clarify - her kids do NOT attend Whitman. They attend another Bethesda high school.

But the kids from the other high school had their alcohol supplier cut off for a short time period. Remember that in Bethesda its a constitutional right for high school students to drink and for their parents to be above the law.

First of all the reported was doing a ride along and this call came in, they wer enot out looking for the party. Secondly, there wa s a party several years ago involving B-CC kids and it was a graduation party. The police showed up and shut it down, the parent said there is no alcohol here and they blocked all the roads out of the neighborhood, ticketed all the cars and set up dwi check points. Guess what, all the kids passed and the police had to issue an apology to the parent and all the tickets to even the neighbors who parked legally were dismissed.

Not saying it only happens at Whitman but the parents reaction was totally differnet.

Turns out that School Without Walls parents, who presumably live in DC, get mortally offended when the principal tries to crack down on a drug problem. That did NOT happen at Whitman.

And BCC defender - what about the color wars events in the fall when kids were drinking on campus?

Yeah lets cite a party that was held seven years ago where no alcohol was present. In the meantime thousands of parties have been held in this county where alcohol was present. In the meantime at least ten teenagers have been killed in alcohol related traffic wrecks.
