Whitman Parents

Check out second part of the first video. Almost every Whitman parent blames the police instead of their own children. This is a very typical attitude of the wealthy.

Thank you for posting the link but this problem is not a rich or poor issue. You have no idea of these parents or kids are wealthy.

The problem is that parents don't want to see that their kids are drinking or smoking pot. It is a huge issue in schools both rich and poor.

This is a typical attitude of many parents. Period.

Attention Parents,

Your children are your children, NOT your friends! Put on your parent pants and act like parents!

I totally agree with Dr. Goodwin and am appalled at the attitudes of many of the parents dipicted in the videos. Kudos to the last parent that gave her kid hell and made him apologize to every cop. THAT's parenting!

Actually I do know that the parents of the kids at this party are wealthy.

Wasn't this one of 15 underage parties in the County the police broke up in December? This one happened to have channel 9 reporters on hand. I wouldn't be surprised if the parent reaction was the same in other parts of the county.

Wow! Just wow! I have a 16 year old and I cannot imagine challenging the police if DC was at party that was busted. Sadly, this is where the spoiled brats learn their sense of entitlement. I think the media should publicize the photos of the parents that allow the parties to take place. That might make them think twice.

Channel 9 would never show any photos of anyone. Notice that they only showed tape of kids from their butts on down. There is absolutely no law that says that a photo or a tape of a kid can't be show on television but the stations are scared %$#less of the wealthy parents that send their kids to Whitman. Notice that the reporter said that some parents threatened to sue the police! For what? For breaking up a party where alcohol and drugs were served.

You seem to have a big chip on your shoulder about wealthy parents at Whitman. The problem about teenagers and drinking is not just related to wealthy kids and drinking. Not every kid who goes to whitman or churchill or any of the so called "rich" hs are wealthy.

Other HS have drinking issues as well.

Stop trying to create an issue when the real issue is HS drinking.

Is B-CC someone's idea of a school without issues of wealth and entitlement?

Whether wealthy parents are more likely to enable student drinking and partying may be beside the point. Give those kids access to cars after the party and you've got real problems. The accident after a Magruder party was broken up last spring was terribly sad and at least one of the kids who was killed was supposed to have had a ride with a designated driver.

I don't think that he/she has any "chip". The story was about Whitman and not other schools The parents with attitudes who showed up were not from other schools. They were Whitman parents.

Actually the story was about underage drinking. The first segment was about a liquor store where VA, DC and MD teens go to buy alcohol. The party in the second segment happened to be a Whitman party. Presumably that was by chance the one the police broke up the night the camera crew was along. There are plenty of other underage parties in the area on any given night.

But not any where the parents give the police so much crap. Ask any officer in Bethesda about which school he would prefer not to deal with.

Yes but I think there are laws about naming or showing faces of minors. There are no such laws to protect the parents. I say print their names in the paper, show faces if possible. I think we need to bring shame back into our culture.

I'm surprised. I would have thought that Churchill parent would be more obnoxious.
