It doesn't happen every day in DC. I agree that there is always a disparity in attention and concern based on a crime victim's race, but this case is much more than that. The sheer brutality of the murder-- struck over 300 times with any and every blunt object (a hammer, a merchandize peg, etc.) that Norwood could get her hands on-- the pleas for mercy overheard by the Apple Store employees-- that's what makes this case different. It's just horrifying, and it doesn't happen every day.

yes it was horrific and my sympathies to the family.

i recall a case earlier this summer where a boyfriend killed his girlfriend in a park and left the 1 year old baby in the car during the sweltering summer heat. this was during the heat wave. have heard nothing since in the news. i think about that poor baby quite often as well as her mother. now that 's equally horrific. yet it received a mere fraction of the coverage. guess what - the victims and criminal were all african american.

I think the Apple store employees need a trial/sentence also.

I remember this. The boyfriend was a DC cop. He killed her just before a child support hearing. Poor baby died in the car. Absolutely tragic story.The bastard had a nerve to show up at the hearing knowing that he'd killed the mother and that his own 1 year old daughter was dying of heatstroke in a car.

Has anyone heard of a psychiatric diagnosis that Ms. Norwood may have been given in the past? Bipolar? Schizophrenic? Or maybe using drugs? The violence and number of stabbings are so beyond extreme.

Norwood was full of hate. You need to study race relations to know where this came from. It may have been taught. If the victim were black, I doubt it would have ended the way it did. No one wants this to be said out loud. Too bad.
