'95 Volkswagen Golf
First car I drove was my parents half dead Jetta (almost no brakes, no heat, no wipers, no signals!) that was the beat up second car. At 19 I bought a 1986 Diesel Golf for $1500 with the money I saved from my summer job.
Mine was beat-up black. Great car, I still miss it. |
86 Honda Civic
1983 hona accord hatchback, manual....loved that car. Body rusted out but engine would have lasted much longer.
1985 jeep cj7
In 1988, my college graduation gift was my parents old 1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. It was a great graduation gift. It was old so as a then-22-yo male driver, it didn't cost me an arm and a leg for insurance and living in the city, I wasn't worried about it getting broken into or stolen. It lasted me 4 good years for which I had no car payment to make. I saved up and in 1992, I bought my first brand new car...for cash!

Volkswagon bus, same model year as me! Bright orange. My parents said it was slow enough that I couldn't get into trouble, and bright enough that no one would run into it by accident. No heat, of course, and it went through belts like I went through boyfriends. I got really good at changing the belts myself.
First car I bought on my own was an 18-year-old toyota pickup. I bought it for the price of a tow and a transmission, and sold it a year later for $2k. That was a good truck. |
What? No brand new, top of the line Range Rovers, Mercedes or Beemers? I am so disappointed with you and the other Joneses.

Dodge Omni
1981 Ford LTD, off-white with burgundy vinyl interior. Kind of a boat, but I loved it.
'78 green mustang. It was my father's boss' daughter's car, and she was returning to her home country.
Pontiac T1000, from the mid 80s. That thing was hideous. I bought it in the mid 90s for $400. It was my first (and last!) manual transmission.
In 1985, my first car was a brown 1974 Ford Maverick. :-p
1980 Datsun (not Nissan, Datsun) 280zx. Best car ever. Yes, I'm a guy and yes, I grew up in NJ.
