Can you please give us an example of the wrong headed ness and fanaticism of which you speak? Thanks. |
You are going to have a LOT more to explain to your children in your lifetime than this word. Pick your battles. Over the weekend, my sisters kids (under 10) and I were discussing anal rape, threesomes (thanks Family Guy and unsupervised TV time!!) and incest. I would much rather have explained to them that sometimes people think that they are being funny by taking two words and combining them into one because it has a nice ring to it but that, if you look at the two words independently, it doesn't make sense that they go together because people who want women to have the same rights as men are nothing like the Nazis who killed 6 million people. FWIW, we are Jewish. And I hope that anal rape doesn't come up tomorrow night in front of my parents. Methinks they would much rather discuss Nazis. |
Do you really not believe that women do not deserve the same respect and opportunities afforded to men? |
|
Because it is the perfect description of the breastfeeding nurse-in nuts. I like the word because it describes them so well. |
| How many millions of innocents have been slaughtered because of their unwillingness to concede anything or find common ground on abortion? |
::headdesk:: It's amazing to me that (presumably) educated women don't know the first thing about feminism, but yet enjoy the benefits of feminism every day of their lives. Sad, really. |
|
I consider the use of the term "feminazi" to signify two things. First, the author does not have a coherent argument and therefore throws around a word that demeans their own point of view as well as wome, and all victims of the Holocaust. Second, that they aren't somebody whose view merits my time and consideration, anyway.
I'll listen to and consider an opposing point of view. But not if you use this term. Your choice. |
The Nazis killed 12 million people. 6 million of them were also not Jewish. |
I keep trying to come up with something - anything - to respond to the amazing display of ignorance in this post but I just can't seem to get the words out. It's not that I disagree with you. It's not that we hold different opinions. Seriously. It's that you lack even the most basic understanding of what it means to be a feminist that it's hard to argue with you because you really are just arguing with a fur ball on the floor. You might as well have said "I don't consider myself a feminist. I like peas." It would have made just as much sense as what you wrote. |
Absolutely I do - that does not make me a feminist. I believe in human rights - that every person deserves to be treated with respect and to be given opportunists regardless of gender. I do appreciate the efforts that the early feminists made to equalize our rights. Feminism today bears little resemblance to the early fight for equality. Read these boards - there is a huge double standard. Pretty much every relationships thread started by a man ends up in well it is your fault because you don't do enough for the woman, children and house. Every relationship thread started by a woman turns into the blame for all the relationship woes placed on the man and the woman is such a hero for putting up with a man. This similar thread is seen over and over here. I believe that women are far from perfect, can be equally as manipulative and controlling as men, and are every bit as responsible for their own actions as a man. I do not equalize women by belittling or putting down men or by portraying them as bumbling fools. I believe everyone - including men - deserves to be treated with respect and that disqualifies me from ever calling myself a feminist. |
That's EXACTLY what feminists believe. That's pretty much the definition of feminism. Do you really not know that? |
I was not aware that the number was that high. I knew that the Nazis would kill not only Jews and Gypsies but anyone who sneezed wrong or looked at someone funny/at the wrong time, but I didn't know to this extent. 6 million just sticks out in my head b/c it is approx. the # of Jews in the U.S. today, kind of a sad coincidence. Thanks for the education! |
| This has always bothered me, but in reality it is just a word and who cares what some moron living in a trailer thinks anyway? |
But the problem is that it is not just "some moron living in a trailer park," but some highly educated, affluent DCUMers who should know better. It's scary, sad and a little pathetic. |
