| Get a cell phone jammer!! It's fun to watch drivers on their cell phone lose their signal. You can get a decent one for about a $100. |
| I do it when I'm sitting in traffic not moving, then going about 5 feet forward, then not moving again and so on and so on. I don't think my email or message is so important but I'm just bored sitting there listening to the same 5 songs on the radio while I'm not moving. I never do it when I am moving at a steady pace, or even when I'm moving. But each time I stop in traffic, I start looking at the phone and responding to texts and emails. I am not putting anyone's life in danger. At all. |
Talking on the phone via a hands-free device is distracting too. There was a study showing the differences between the driver talking hands-free on the phone v. driver talking with a passenger in the car, and the former is a real distraction from driving compared to talking to a person who is physically present in the car with you. I almost never talk on the phone while driving, much less text or email. I know how dangerous it is and I don't presume that it's "just dangerous for everyone else but I'm one of those special people who can do it safely." I actually pull over and stop the car if I need to make a call. If I'm driving, I usually let it ring & then I pull over and return the call, or I just wait until I get where I was going and then return the call. My kids are elementary age and I know they are watching me in the car (and everywhere else). If they see me using my phone in the car, they are going to think it's ok. No matter how much I tell them it's not ok, if I model this behavior, they are going to think they can do it when they start driving. So, those of you who text and drive, think about what you are teaching your kids. |
| My best guess is when they are in jail for killing someone. |
+1 Expand, widen and DOUBLE decker all highways inside of the beltway, start with arlington, it is THEIR fault 66 is only 2 lanes |
| if you have an important job you need to be on your phone all the time. |
| Once there are 26 hours in a day. |
That's awesome! Is it legal? Also, I think the Trader Joe's in Clarendon must have one of these. |
Right. Because your job is more important than someone else's life. |
Sadly, this. |
It was the deal cut at the time. If you don't like it, use a different road, or gasp, Metro. |
That sounds like it's really dangerous. |
Times have changed and the state should bulldoze over those crappy tiny arlington homes near 66. |

I was driving in MoCo the other day on a 2 lane road - just behind someone swerving all over the road. I'd tried to pass, but after almost getting shoved into oncoming traffic (she looked up from her phone as I honked at her and swerved back into her lane with her phone in her hand, so I know she was texting) I decided to just chill & stay behind her for the mile and a half I had left on the road.
About 30 seconds later she drifted so far to the right she actually ran up and over the curb. She had to have done major damage to her car, and thank God there were no pedestrians present on the sidewalk because she could really have hurt someone. I'm *really* hoping that was enough for her to not drive and text again in the future. |
State should bulldoze Arlington. |
