What do you think of this ring for everyday?

This looks cheap. Think about the "statement" it makes: I have a lot of money and very little taste. Or, I wear the same jewelry as an unimaginative rich man's mistress. Or, This ring is also available in CZ from Kohl's.

If you want a real statement ring, go vintage. Those 1920s ladies had it goin' on, jewelry-wise. I'm sure you could get something amazing, real stones, a unique setting.

I don't mind it but it honestly looks like it could be one of those $200 silver/messonite or crystal rings from Nordstrom. For that amount of money, I'd go for something a little more unusual- maybe a beautiful turquoise stone with diamonds around it. This kind of screams "flash" and doesn't look quality. If you want something with just diamonds, I think you can find some gorgeous stackable diamond rings- 2 or 3- that look classic but also make a statement.

P.S. The donate to a needy family person should get off of their high horse. Maybe this woman has plenty to buy herself a nice gift AND donate to causes she believes in. It's not always either/or you know.

Agree with everyone else: for that amount of money, you could find something MUCH better. That ring should cost $200 tops.

10:09 You don't get to tell other people hot to spend their money. She didn't ask your opinion on what to spend, she asked if people liked the ring. Get off you soapbox. Do you ever buy anything that you want but perhaps do not need--whether expensive or not? If so, under you logic, you should buy cheaper and give half to charity.

OP, this is your lucky day. First, I echo what everyone else has said about your pick -- not very attractive for the price. If you are willing to drop some cash, however, please see this link with 50 "engagement" rings from Lucky maagzine: http://www.luckymag.com/blogs/luckyrightnow/2011/10/engagement-rings#slide=1

Very few of these are traditional engagement rings and most could be a statement ring. Most are cheaper and a million times more attractive than your pick.

I song know that I would tell the op how to spend money, but it does seem absolutely tasteless to me to spend that kind of money in the current environment.

Given the attitudes in this thread, it is no surpise the middle and upper classes give less % of their income to charity than poorer folks.

I love it! But I have the necklace, so I'm probably biased. One thing, though -- pave is not a great everyday setting. It's easy to get grime in the setting, so you have to clean it all the time.

Maybe she does give a lot to charity. OP- would you like to share some of the wonder causes you've supported? How you've helped make a difference in someone's life who isn't as fortunate as you? Is this 8200 ring a big deal to you or is it just a drop in the bucket?

I don't get to ask super wealthy people this question in "real life" - do you think your money has made you happy/happier?

Don't mean to be snarky, but maybe you could find a ring for half the price (or less) which is still pretty extravagant and give $4000 to a family in dc that are hungry. I bet it would feed them for 6-9 months. I'm sure you already give a lot to charity and I realize that we can't fix all the problems that are out there, but I think 8200 is crazy for a ring. What if you lose it? Also, I'm sure there are lots of nice rjings for 3000-4000 or less. Maybe do something personal, like buy groceries for some kids or fund a medical procedure or fund part of your private school or send a kid to college for a semester. I know it's your money and you earned it and you can spend it as you like, but in these times of such economic need (when people are protesting on the streets) I think a less expensive ring and a generous donation would make you feel really good.

Don't like the ring either but this poster is way over the top. Are you same poster that every single time someone talks about spending money the answer is always donate it to charity?

No, I'm not the same poster but I'm glad there are others who are concerned about the fact that there are kids probably a few miles from where many of us live who go to sleep hungry. Many people agreed that this ring was not worth the money. I didn't say she shouldn't buy a ring, just that she could probably find one that isn't quite as costly and that it would make her feel good to help someone else. I like nice things but I think it would be amazing to pay for a families food for 6 months or help someone attend a state school. Maybe she has so much that she does these things already and has a lot left over. I don't know, we haven't heard from her. I guess I just don't know people who buy 8200 rings for fun and it seems ridiculous to me...

Looks like Kardashian style crappy channel diamonds.

OP: are there any others you like?

I don't have any problems with your spending your money on yourself. It's your money, you get to decide how to spend it (and you should do it guilt-free IMO). However, if I saw you wearing that ring, I would never guess it was a $8000 ring from Tiffany. I'd guess it was about $100 from some department store. Go check out Pampillonia and Boone & Sons in FH/Chevy Chase. They both carry some beautiful and unique pieces. I have a right hand ring from B&S that I love and get complimented on all the time.
