Talk to me about schools in Silver Spring MD

This thread predates Flora Singer, but that's a good school too.

A small part of Silver Spring feeds to Rosemary Hills too.

Cloverly Elementary is a very good elementary school. It is in the 20905 area.

Oakland Terrace is great - part of 20902. Half of our school split off into the new Flora Singer and have heard wonderful things about that school as well.

+1 on Flora Singer. It's been a great school for my son this year.

20910 includes East Silver Spring Elementary School. Don't send your child there!

PP, what is your personal experience with East Silver Spring ES?

ZIP Code 20907
ZIP Code 20908
ZIP Code 20911
ZIP Code 20914
ZIP Code 20915
ZIP Code 20916
ZIP Code 20918
ZIP Code 20993
ZIP Code 20997

None of these have ever had any listings in them that I can tell, so it's really only 20901-20906 plus 20910.

14:33: there's actually a fair amount of inventory in Silver Spring 20901 and 20902 under $400K. We found a great house and are under contract for $10K under ask, $35K under the original price.

Actually East Silver Spring is a great school with very small class sizes. it's newly renovated and has a great teaching and admin team. True, the demographics will scare many people off but there if you can keep an open mind, we really feel like ESS is a hidden gem.

How long has the current principal been at East Silver Spring?

I'd love to know too.

Another vote for Oakland Terrace and Flora Singer. Both are fantastic schools - excellent academic programs, strong communities, active PTAs, diverse in many ways, outstanding administration and faculty. DH and I have talked about moving to a slightly larger house but don't want to leave the FSES zone (or our street, actually) so are in absolutely no rush. If the families active at FSES and OTES stay involved, the MS and HS issues that people have talked about in the past will dissipate, I think.
