Studying straight from the bible, no chants, no formalities, no rituals |
| I need a church that doesn't play that god-awful (excuse the pun) contemporary worship music with a full band on stage and people in the pews holding their hands up in the air with their eyes closed. I just want to go and sit and take in my sermon and feel like a better person, and make friends too, but not the kind who will be uptight and judgy and want to be super Christians outside of church. Just regular people who go to church on Sundays to feel like good people and try to have a good relationship with God but also don't want to make their whole LIFE about serving God and "fellowship." |
That would make you a catholic. |
LOL you might be onto something... |
Most of the (BLANK) Bible may trend heavily conservative/uptight/"judgy", though. Also, most of the active members of any church, from the snake handlingest of Signs Following churches to the rogue parishes the Episcopals kicked out for being too damned liberal will be about serving God and fellowship. Arlington Church of Christ may be an interesting fit for you. Bible based, no music (all a cappella singing), good people -- but more liberal than other Churches of Christ. I even believe one of the elders is a Democrat! Have you considered Unitarian churches, or is that too far out (theologically) for you? |
It has "elders." totally creepy |
exactly. This is why on the rare occasion I go to church, it is to Catholic mass. |
| Columbia Baptist in Falls Church |
Unitarian is about as far from Bible based as you can get. |
I agree! Only my particular splinter sect knows just the right mix of Bible passages to interpret *literally*, and which to discard as "not really what Jesus meant". Everyone else is going to Hell. |
umm unitarian is not bible based or christian There is no single unifying belief that all Unitarian Universalists (UUs) hold, aside from complete and responsible freedom of speech, thought, belief, faith, and disposition. Unitarian Universalists believe that each person is free to search for his or her own personal truth on issues, such as the existence, nature, and meaning of life, deities, creation, and afterlife. UUs can come from any religious background, and hold beliefs and adhere to morals from a variety of cultures or religions. |

Try Capital Life Church in Rosslyn. Small congregation - mostly young families. LOTS of babies/kids. all bible based. relaxed atmosphere. highly recomended. |
I've been here a few times and would agree with this. Large church (not McLean large, but big enough) with many activities. Small groups is a big focus in the larger churches. I believe their membership is around 2000 and the average member age is about 32-33. |
| What's a Bible-based church? Any Christian church? |
| OP what size church would you like? 4th Presbyterian Church in Bethesda is great for families/kids, but it's large. You'd have to judge for yourself whether it for all of your criteria. It's so subjective. |
