Lulumon Murder: Apple Store Employees Testimony

Anonymous
I just finished reading this article, and I feel sick. I cannot imagine the mentality that causes people not to respond to a situation where something is obviously wrong. Screams, thuds, a voice calling for help, a voice saying "don't do this?". It truly makes me ill to think of that poor woman laying next door, potentially able to be saved, and dying because people are so self-involved. Unbelievable.

You can't just blame it on Kids These Days. Look at what happened to Kitty Genovese. There were no such things as iPods, BlackBerries, PDA's etc to blame it on back then. Most people just don't want to get involved.

Agree with this... and btw, where are all those people saying the Chinese disregard human life because they didn't help that toddler who was hit by a car? By that logic, you can now say that American disregard human life - and here you don't even have the excuse of lack of good Samaritan law...

Maybe, just maybe, there are good and bad people everywhere and we should avoid generalizations.

And no, I am not Asian - I am Latina.

It's truly sickening.

It's freaking me out that employees heard what they heard and did not call the police. I'd read reports that they heard noises, but did not appreciate until yesterday that they could hear actual words, and that it was obvious from what they were hearing that something was really, really wrong.

I thought the exact same thing! What. In the fuck were these two people thinking? How difficult would it have been to dial 911 -- even if you're not that sure, maybe it was a joke, maybe they're just moving heavy furniture ....

This guy and this chick are the embodiment of what is wrong with the 'earbuds glued permanently into my ear canal, eyes down on a flickering screen 115% of the time' generation that has been "brought up on technology." Which of course is fostered by their employer, but does go beyond that. (ie, you can be oblivious to the bus about to run you over because you're staring at a text on your Droid, not iPhone).

No need to engage, ever, with your surroundings or reach out.

Actually, I have to take a moment to defend the fact that I have my earbuds in while I drive my car and walk my son in the stroller. I call the police ALL the time when something is up. I call the police to complain about people jaywalking at night.

I am such a busybody in my neighborhood. I thought I saw a man exposing himself behind the bushes at the park and I called the police RIGHT away. In that case, it turns out he was mentally ill and it was over 100 degrees so he was expelling all the shaving cream from canisters because he thought they would explode in his medicine cabinet.

I think some people don't know how to check their iPhone and be aware of their surroundings, sure. But some of us put technology to good uses.

These employees are idiots, though.

This is why those two Apple employees suck so very much. There is really no way for anyone (over the age of about 10) to interpret the words of the dead woman any other way other than acute distress. They walked over to the wall, leaned in, and heard this:

"God, help. me. Somebody, god, help me."

Nah, you know what, let's stack up these iPhone cases neatly so we can get outta here.

I'm 100% with you, and I know that I would have called 911 if I heard anyone crying or pleading anything similar. I probably would have been too afraid to go over there by myself, but I wouldn't have ignored what I heard.

It's truly heartbreaking.

I can't imagine what it must have been like for the victim's parents hearing this testimony and knowing that their daughter might have been saved but wasn't because someone didn't want to get involved.

Agree with yelling "fire".

I would say the more crowded an area (ironically) the less likely you are to get help. Too many people in their own world. Often to their own detriment. Look at the ipad thefts on the Metro (not that it compares, it does not).

Can you imagine being friends with those to Apple A-holes?
I could never look at them the same.

OP here. We've been going to that Apple store. I'm thinking not again. I'm also surprised that this didn't get out sooner. It's truly shocking and scandalous.

14:32, I'm not normally one of "these" commenters but you do realize how unsafe it is to be driving and pushing your son in a stroller with earbuds in, right? You're drowning out noises you NEED to be hearing in those situations.

As far as the Apple employees, I know myself, and I'd have called the cops and possibly even gone over there myself to see what was going on before they got there. There is NO WAY I would have heard that and not done something.

I thought the same thing-- okay, pushing your kid in the stroller I can understand, but DRIVING A CAR with earbuds in? That's nuts, lady. And isn't it illegal??

RE: the Apple store people-- no way in hell I'm going over there if I hear someone screaming and fighting, but call 911? YES! I mean, how hard is that? You don't even have to leave your name.

I won't be visiting that Apple store either.

I think people shouldn't demonize those two - I feel very sorry for them. Think what they have to live with now. Who knows what went through their minds, but we weren't there and haven't experienced the same thing. It's very easy to judge. Perhaps it was 'group think' ... if each were on their own they may have reacted more appropriately. There's a lot of psychology to analyze in this situation, and I don't think any of you are qualified to give the conclusion. Yes, we should examine why this happened, but let's not demonize someone else's kids, siblings, friends, etc.

OK - bracing myself for the responses!

You know, I generally feel the same way-- don't judge until you walk a mile in their shoes-- but damn. "Oh God please help me"? I mean, really. How can you listen to that and just pick up your purse and go home?

I don' think the employees are evil, but I do think it's pretty appalling.

Ok...I can't imagine how they didn't do anything also. I thing the struggle lasted some time to do something!

I was seeing some pictures on WP website and could not believe the amount of blood and all the tools used to kill that poor woman. REALLY strong pictures
