When I tried on bridesmaid dresses about a year ago the woman had to pull exactly 3 dresses and it took less than 30 minutes. Doesn't sound that time consuming to me. |
If the bride is that picky about something as small as her FG dresses, she should offer to pay the consultation fee for you |
NP here. The wedding industry is a complete sham. More and more people are doing things on their own. Priscillas couldn't even stay afloat. There are places other than Davids that are more quality, but lets face it, for ten hours or less, lets get a bargain. I say sales people are sale people. I have had people at Macy's been more helpful than the alleged top notch bridal places. It is time the bridal industry is more in line with reality. They are secretive about brands and models as it is. It is like any other business in many ways. But making the bride miserable and giving the bride a hard time should NOT be what ANY bridal place is known for. Honestly, I was married years ago. The only place I know that is reasonable that is still in business (!) is that place on 123 in Vienna. I think it is White Swan Bridal. I say this because I would not want anyone to go through the hellish bridal experience I did, I should have gone with that store. I have no interest whatsoever. The boutique I used was awful and went out of business. Seriously, try White Swan. They have been around forever (at least 20 years), are reasonable and the owner is top notch, very sweet. I tried them ALL at the time, including Hennlores (sp?) and Rizik's, thinking I would get something fantabulous. All I got was a hard time about "appointments" and other BS. Do they want to sell a GD dress or not?!?! GL OP. |
I remember being surprised you'd need an appt anywhere to try on dresses. But I did make appts at several places, including Davids Bridal. Even WITH the appt, the service was awful. They wouldn't let me take the dresses off the rack and said I needed to wait until someone was available to help (that's why I had an appt!). So we carried them around and then tried to get into the dressing room and they wouldn't let us. So I had to hang the 3 dresses on another rack near the dressing room and stand there an wait for someone to be available to help me get dressed in them (?) even though I did all the picking out myself bc I got tired of waiting. Then the rack fell over cause the dresses were so heavy. I just stood there and didn't pick them up. Why make an appt if you aren't going to get service anyway? |
Does anyone here watch Say Yes to the Dress? I guess that show isn't representative of the reality in bridal wear shopping, from what some of you say. |
16:35 - EXACTLY. They act so put out, no wonder people do things on their own! Its not as if they are doing you a favor. |
The three dress limit really bothers me. They should pass a law, I swear. Who knows what looks good in a bridal dress? Its not like we do this every day, and they know it. I'm cdrtainly not going to trust some surly sales person to dress me on my wedding day!

Must be a very new charge, I was there last month with my daughter and sister in law to be to look at flower girl dresses. We had an appointment but weren't ready to decide on the spot, so we left without buying anything. I can see a consultation fee for wedding gowns but not so much for flower girl and bridesmaid dresses - the woman who helped us didn't do much beyond pointing us to the dresses and then to a dressing room. There's a lot more helping involved in trying on wedding gowns. |
It's the reality in very high-end bridal stores where the bride is plunking down $10,000 on a dress. Not in a place like David's. |
It. Is. Their. Job.
I know we are in D.C. and all (it's not my job capitol) - but really. |
Hi Ladies,
My name is Noelle Landolt, and I am the Online Community Manager at David's Bridal. We regret that there are some inaccuracies in these posts and want to take a few moments to clear up any misconceptions regarding working with David’s Bridal for your special day. We do encourage our brides & bridal parties to schedule an appointment, which allows us to ensure that they receive the assistance of one of our expert consultants throughout the entire visit. However, there is not a consultation fee for doing so, as it’s our pleasure to serve you; our customers only pay for the merchandise that they decide to purchase. We’re so sorry to hear that you were misinformed and would certainly like to clear this up. Please feel free to email us at DBCares@dbi.com with a phone number where you can be contacted during business hours or with any outstanding questions. |
You know I agree with you so much. I was watching Say Yes to the Dress the other day with my husband and we were talking about the sham of an industry it is. It takes SIX-EIGHT months to get your dress and then you need tons of alterations??? why? I would think at that point the alterations would be very, very minimal? I would've thought those dresses would be made for your measurements. It kills me too, the people that say they only want to spend $X and I always think "the alterations will be an extra $1000 or so too" and it's not like they tell you that. |
Noelle,
Thank you for chiming in! I am glad to see that DB has an online presence to deal with issues like this. When it was my turn to be a bride, I found all of the DB dresses huge in size (thus requiring slterations). Which makes sense, since I know that brides often gain weight (or don't lose all the weight they planned) before the wedding. But ALL bridal services need to be more forthcoming, so as to not encourage shoppers to go elsewhere. Do you still have the three dress minimum? Also, I found rudeness when I did not have an appointment mid week, empty store. I think they need to work on this. Again, either they want our money or not. Thanks again. |
This post is a fake. All of the david's bridal emails are at davidsbridal.net Nice try "Noelle" ![]() In fact, if you google "Noelle Landolt, David's Bridal" the only thing that comes up is a sweepstakes. |
If she faked that, then she also faked her LinkedIn account. If LinkedIn is to be believed, she's legit. |
