What is your favorite red/white wine?

I like Frontera Carmenere and Shiraz. It's extremely cheap (8.99 ) at Harris Teeter and it comes in a big bottle, but I love it, and it has never given me a headache at all.

white wine - Our Dog Blue

Markam. so so good. I sometimes find it at costco for 14. usually at other places for 17 or higher.

I agree - Yuk! This stuff is way overhyped.

Another vote for Ravenwood Vintner's Blend Zinfandel. I also like Yellow Tail Shiraz, or when I'm really thrifty, Charles Shaw, but only a couple varieties - merlot and cabernet. I tried one of the whites (can't recall which) and it was awful.

RED - Marques de Caceres
WHITE - Fat Bastard

Our house white is Pacific Peak Chardonnay - $2.97 at Total Wine, and never a 'cheap wine' headache the next morning! Finca Fleichman from Argentina is about $7 and pretty good too. Gazela Vinho Verde is a good lower alcohol alternative.

Red is about $18 - Domaine Des Michelons Moulin-a-Vent

Two buck Chuck has turned into Four buck chuck and it's still not good.

I also agree.. great marketing technique.. but it's nasty! not even worth $2 (when it was $2)..

Red -- Cline Old Vine Zinfandel (~$16 at TJs). Also some of the South African Pinotages.
White -- Any of the New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs, I've never had one I didn't like.

Whites:

Strauss Samling 88 (grape name, not vintage) $10

I second New Zealand sauvignon blancs -- they are great both with food and by themselves. Oyster Bay and Nobilo are particular favorites, and both are under $15. If you live in VA, the absolute lowest prices I've ever seen on wine are at Total Wine & More, which has several stores around here. They are lower than Costco and offer a 10% case discount but only for 12 of the same thing.

Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio - you can get it at Costco too.

FIL who is a bit of a wine-o also highly recommends the santa margherita pinot
