Daddy's little slugger is lame. What, like daddy is only proud if his son is athletic? As for chicks dig me... that's barely cute. I like "boob man" better. But I'm with the PP who likes the offbeat stuff. |
| I saw a onesie once that said "all mommy wanted was a backrub". I thought it was so funny. |
| 12:43 - I just bought my daughter the same shirt! I want one in my size that says, "Yeah, I run like a girl. Jealous?" |
| I saw a baby-T in an Eastern European country that had a silhouette of a pole dancer on it and said, "I support working moms." lol |
| I dislike most of those graphic tees, as well, though I got my son one that was a picture of a supercute skunk with stink lines that said "stinker" on it and loved how cute it was. I think the issue is that most of them are not to my taste. Apparently jc penney has apologized for this. BTW, remember jc penney was the same store that had that horrible french maid's dress from a. byer in pre-teen and girls sizes? Geez, JCP, maybe your buyers should pay more attention? |
| I never liked phrase tshirts. My ds has worn a KISS and Sid Vicious t shirts in past years, which I find much cooler than Spiderman. If only I could find a Watchmen tshirt for him. Most kids' stuff is lame. |
| My niece had a cute one that said, "I'm not a tomboy, I'm an athlete." |
I'm so stealing this! The funniest phrase I heard today! |
There is a whole line of apparel called "I run like a girl" - but it doesn't have the "jealous?" follow up: http://www.irunlikeagirl.com/ |
+1 more for the hellness of the no! |
| I'm not a big fan of logo tees but I'm OK w/ a spiderman or batman shirt or two. What I hate more than the logo tees are the ones that advertise....like Calvin Klein or Gap for example. Sorry, but if you want me to be a walking billboard for you then you should pay me not the other way around! To me those are far tackier than a superman or mickey mouse shirt. |
Is it meant to be tongue-in-cheek feminism/Grrl Power/Girl Power? If not, don't you find it negative? To me "I run like a girl" is the same as "Princess" and I find them both overt and offensive. It's not like I'm against my son wearing blue or my daughter wearing pink, either. I would rather my child wear Metallica or Black Sabbath shirts everyday than dress my son in a "Girl's are icky" shirt. |
| terry bicycles also has a ride like a girl and I think tri like a girl shirt in adult sizes. |
It is actually an adult line of shirts that they sell at a lot of race expos - I posted b/c pp said she wanted a tshirt that said something about "running like a girl" in her size. I think the intention is female capability/strength. Not for kids though - I guess I hijacked a bit. |

I think the "run like a girl" and similar logos are meant to be empowering by taking back the slur "you throw/run/hit like a girl" that boys might fling at one another on the playground. By claiming the statement proudly, it's an affirmation rather than a put-down.
There's nothing positive about the JC Penney t-shirt. Sure, at first glance it might be mildly amusing, yet it's the insidious way that the message enters our kids' and society's collective conscious that is problematic. |
