Public? Private? Teacher? Aide?

16 - 1st grade, MCPS Focus school. One teacher.

18 students:1 teacher in 4th grade private. The ratio is part of the reason why we have DC in private. The other part is that, in the class of 18, there are virtually no behavioral issues.

However, in this economy, we will revisit our decision each year.

25 kids,1 teacher-public Kindergarten

Public K with 15-17 are probably FARMS and/or Title 1 schools.

My friend in PGCPS has a kindergartener with 34 kids in one class with one teacher. The other kinder class in the same school also has 34 kids and one teacher.

I think it is child neglect to put 34 five year olds in one room with one adult.

Her second grader has 30 with one teacher.

MCPS - 28 kindergartners to 1 teacher, no teacher's assistant. A lot of kids!! Can anything be done to get more resources for the school to hire an aid?? A lot of parents are worried about how one teacher can handle so many 5-year olds with no support!! Also, what if parents raise funds for a teacher's aid? Can the school accept the funding?

I moved from Arlington county, VA. There we had 2 teachers and 24 students in K in public school. Here, in MCPS, we have 23 students and 1 teacher in first grade. I think teachers in MCPS may not be too happy.

Public, 1 teacher and I often see a second teacher helping.

What school system (in Maryland) has the second teacher helping? MCPS does not use teacher's aides in K.
