Don't fall for the romantic image of these guys as gentlemen. There is no gentlemanliness about throwing a stick of dynamite into your store because you won't pay them money. Breaking bones, cutting and killing people over extortion money is wrong. That was the principal business of the early mafia - to terrify decent people into giving them money. Today it's girls and drugs and the same extortion rackets. There is no honor in trading girls or trafficking drugs. The movies like to show the bootlegging and the intergang warfare because it is easier to romanticize. But the structure of a mafia drug enterprise and a black drug enterprise are about the same.

Different cultural tradition. That is more middle eastern--or middle ages northern european punishment.

I'm not sure where you think this was, but it was a u.s. city, and stonings don't really happen. I'm not sure enough rocks are even lying about to do a proper stoning. Especially against mobsters with tommy guns. In any case, one of them did get whacked but it was a setup by a rival gang.

But such is the fighting among human beings. There is no honor or fairness. Get as much as you can anyway you can. We are still very much animals. Heck, even animals don't stoop to our level when it comes to fighting for limited resources.

Out of curiosity I looked at the convert.org site. I did not study it in depth, but using the site map I made a quick search for the "profit" part and could not find it. Can you direct me to it? In a lifetime of unobservant Judaism I never saw a way to make a profit from becoming observant.
